Re: Fred Durst Must Love Ripping Off Floyd

First there is his video with animation that eerily resembles the scene from the Wall where the students are all led into the sausage making machine thingy. Then there is his version of WYWH which he performed last Friday.

Any thoughts on this?

Personally I found his version of WYWH to be less poetic, but given the shgort time he had for preparation, I'll cut the guy some slack.

Re: Fred Durst Must Love Ripping Off Floyd

Yeah, I saw the video, and that very much annoyed me! Trying to make the younger generation think that's original...!

But I didn't see the WYWH ripoff. I read the lyrics...and yeah, you can tell they were under pressure.

And here's another ripoff (but not Fred Durst)--there's some techno/dance compilation or 90's hits CD (can't remember which)...and the name of it is PULSE--in big capital letters! Excuse me!? Can we say RIPOFF???

Re: Fred Durst Must Love Ripping Off Floyd

If that compilation was made before 95 or whenever Pulse was made, then it wasn't a ripoff
and I didn't see the fred durst thing, I heard it was pretty good, for something with limp bizkit in it
but didn't see the video, do you know which song it is so I can download it and see the pitiful ripoff?

Re: Fred Durst Must Love Ripping Off Floyd

I hated Fred Durst's performance of Wish You Were Here. It was fine until they added the lyrics at the end. The song is called Wish You Were Here, yet the last line was I'm so glad you're here. Please, someone explain because I'm confused!

Re: Fred Durst Must Love Ripping Off Floyd

No NotNowJohn, cut the guy no slack whatsoever. After Friday, that's the least he deserves.

Memorials to the brave who sacrifice their lives for others are all well and good, it is both proper and fitting that such memorials occur.

However, and I don't care what the occasion, it gives NO-ONE the right to mangle an already perfect piece of music just to suit the occasion.

I wondered as I watched the programme who the guys were and thanks to NNJohn I know now.

Okay, so some of the original lyrics may have been close to the knuckle:

"Can you tell a green field, from a cold steel (girder?) rail?"
or
"Did they get you to trade, your HEROES for ghosts?"
or
"Hot ashes for trees? How air for a cool breeze?", etc.

...but the very sentiments of "How I wish, how I wish you were here." couldn't have been more fitting for the occasion.

Instead, we were given a rather poor and unworthy substitute. I didn't notice anybody else's music being savaged in the same way. Put me right off, it did.

Rant ends.

Floyd-u-like,
Byron

I can't remember very much, but I know that the so-called "PULSE" compilation is a new release.

Re: Fred Durst Must Love Ripping Off Floyd

Ok - i truely disagree here

(finally a good debate!)

I saw that limp bizkit video - i saw the connections to the wall, and i thought 'hey' these guys must be floyd fans, and i must say they did a good job in the video - even if they did rip some stuff off - too me i didn't see it as rip off, rather something of respect.

Also, i thought his performance was great of Wish You Were Here.

1st of all it was awesome to see a PF song performed for all America (and other places?) to hear, that wasn't one of there #1's (statisticly).

I don't blame fred durst for the 'rushed' exta lyrics - obviously he didn't come up with them, or he wouldn't have to read them off a sheet.

But if you watched closely, during the verses that were true to the original, he looked right at the camera and sang the words - implicitly saying "i'm a floyd fan, i know the words to the original wywh, i just need this sheet for these added lyrics"

Also - think of his situation, invited or volunteered to be in the Fund raiser - come on he can't perform any Limp Bizkit - it won't fit (beg to differ? go ahead).
So instead he does a tribute to one of the greatest bands alive - i thought it valiant, somewhat courageous, and very beautiful.

He did a great job singing - the violins in the background were great, guitar was awesome - come on folks, don't be so friggin' critical because it's "Pink Floyd's work and can't be used anywhere else" - the tradgedy that occured should make you look past such differences and see our race
as one - not as individual 'pigs'.

I thought they did a beautiful job, and i must say, it was perfect for the occasion.

-i smiled inside, and in leu of such a disasturous event, i think they accomplished something.

Re: Fred Durst Must Love Ripping Off Floyd

Well, Charade, I said I would give the guy some slack because obviously they were rushed. Bot as Byron pointed out, The original lyrics fit just as well. The guitar playing was performed absolutely perfect (was that Dave Groel? or someone else?) but Fred's singing was horrible, at least now we know why raps rather than sings.

Re: Fred Durst Must Love Ripping Off Floyd

Well if i had his status, and loved Floyd - and couldn't sing anything besides rap - hell i'd still sing it.

Even if his voice sounded like crap don't you think he know's that? and wouldn't he not do it then?

But he did do it - even though his voice sucked (tho i thought it wasn't bad), which tells you something.

Re: Fred Durst Must Love Ripping Off Floyd

Three cheers for Fred Durst!

I haven't heard the performance myself, but I don't really mind that he would perform it or that he would change the lyrics, especially after that whole thing about songs being banned on radio. Well, not banned, but it is strongly suggested that they don't play them. I don't know all the changes he made, but if he changed "Wish You Were Here" at the end to "I'm Glad You're Here", I would think that the original lyrics would have been better.

I think it's neat how we all agree on something!!!

We all agree that all Limp Bizkit does is slap the strings recklessly and scream into the microphones.

Re: Fred Durst Must Love Ripping Off Floyd

(Now that I think about it)

I feel like crying!

I can't believe they made a video out of WYWH.

Now all the people at school that glue theirselved to the TV when TRL comes on are going to be wearing DSotM T-Shirts.

Those BSB, N'sync, Brit Spears pansies are gonna think they're Pink Floyd gurus just like they did with Styx.

And I'm not popular so no one's gonna believe me when I say that i like them first.

I already have a black DSotm and a Wall(Goodbye Blue Sky movie cartoon)but haven't warn them yet.

Does anyone feel my pain?

(Somebody please tell me they didn't actually make a video out of it.)

Re: Fred Durst Must Love Ripping Off Floyd

I seen that and my feeling was hey If your gonna do it, Do it right. Dont change the Lyrics. They are the way they are because that is the song! Durst didn't do WYWH, he did his version of a song he heard but could not understand. The western world knows WYWH, and I dont believe many thought Fred Durst had a clue. Man, is it just me, or do other people feel that if they wanted WYWH they should have asked the right people to do it? VIA sattlelite or what ever. And if that wouldn't have worked then why not just get someone that does it right? I would bet many of the folks reading this can play the song, and sing it with more feeling and power than what we, and WYWH were exposed to.
Thanks Duff
