Can't listen to it

Hello,

Does anyone have a song or a couple songs that they really used to enjoy, but cannot anymore due to emotional attachment?

For me, it's WYWH. A good friend of mine committed suicide 2 years ago. They played WYWH at his funeral. I haven't touched the album since. I can't bring myself to listen to it for enjoyment purposes. It means too much to me. I feel if I listen to it without feeling the feelings that I felt at his funeral, then I'd be doing a disservice to him.

There are a couple other albums/songs that I feel the same way about. Problem is, I enjoyed them before an event happened, then after, I'm left not being able to enjoy it like I once did. Echoes is another song. That helped me through the same tough time with my friend, and now I really can't sit down to listen to it without feeling those same feelings.

It's a little frustrating.

Can anyone else relate?

I relate big time. Sorry about what happened with your friend, indeed.

Some difficult songs for me to listen to:

"November Rain" by Guns N' Roses - Had an experience with a girl that sounds a lot like the lyrics.
"Paranoid Eyes" by Pink Floyd - Listened to it alot in a hard time in my life.
"Your Song" by Elton John - Weathering troubles with my mother.

But the ultimate song I absolutely cannot hear is "Wasted Time" by The Eagles. It's not even that personal, it's just so painful to listen to, especially if you've witnessed a divorce.

For some strange reason, "Tonight, Tonight" by the Smashing Pumpkins reminds me of my younger days, when a kid got to be a kid, and that always seems to get me down.

Yeah one of my friends committed suicide a few years back too and the song at the funeral was John Lennon's "Imagine", so sometimes I find that hard to take.
But strangely enough, just before I went to the church that morning "Yellow" by Coldplay was on the radio and that seems to have stayed with me more, I tend to associate that with it more than anything else.

There's the usual thing with girls alright with certain songs, but a lot of them are songs I mightn't listen to much anyway luckily enough, like songs from Dirty Dancing...they don't fill my CD collection suprisingly enough so I manage to escape them a bit.

The Scientist- Coldplay... quite embarassing, lol.

Hmm, yeah, It Is Well With My Soul makes me cry a bit. Too many funerals use it.

I can't listen to any sad michael jackson songs, as they remind me of my best friend Luis who's moved miles away, the place where i used to live before i moved to this shithole and what life was like before i grew up.

The song `Absolutely Curtains` from `Obscured By Clouds` makes me feel like watching the `Twilight zone` , it is strange to listen to it in dark. Try it!
