Re: Best Rolling Stones album

Stones fans are a lot like Floyd fans. They each prefer different eras.
I, for instance, like the early Stones stuff the best; when Brian Jones was with them.
My favorite albums are Between The Buttons, Aftermath, Their Satanic Majesties Request, Beggar's Banquet, Sticky Fingers and Let It Bleed.

Most love Exile On Main Street, but I think it's overrated.
I love Their Satanic Majesties Request, but most Stones fans hate it. So there you go.

I wouldn't say the Stones have a Magnum Opus like DSOTM, but
you can't go too wrong starting with Sticky Fingers and Let It Bleed. I think all Stones fans would agree there.

Re: Best Rolling Stones album

I recommend 'Sticky Fingers', that's the one that made the most impression on me. My personal favorite from that is Sway, equipped with a nice string section to go along with Mick Jagger and a great solo by Mick Taylor.

I don't know a whole lot about the Stones, but I love Sticky Fingers.

I've got Aftermath, it's OK. And a copy of Beggar's Banquet on vinyl that I quite haven't got around to listening to, you know how it is.

Re: Best Rolling Stones album

Many critics usually say that Exile On Main Steet is their masterpiece, I am not very familiar with that album though. My favourite is Sticky Fingers but then again I am not a diehard Stones fan so that's just my two (euro-) cents.

Re: Best Rolling Stones album

Just buy the Forty Licks album and you've got the essentials.

Of course, I say that because it's topheavy with their old stuff.

Re: Best Rolling Stones album

Their Satanic Majesties Request is a good one. I have some others and some compilations. Exile On Main Street was the first RS music I've been listening to... it still makes me Happy.

Re: Best Rolling Stones album

There Satanic Majestys Request is way up there on my list but my fave by far is Sticky Fingers.

Stratters hit the nail on the head IMO in his first post here, I'll echo what he said.

My fave Stones tune overall in on Sticky Fingers. That would be "Can't You Hear Me Knocking". Mick Taylors solo on that cut is nothing short of amazing. It was a huge influence on my playing in "the early years". Great stuff.

Yeah, that's what I have, and it's plenty for me. Never been much of a Stones fan...

But "Sympathy For The Devil" and "Paint It Black" kick butt!

Ditto. I'd just add Goat's Head Soup and Some Girls.
