Nice discussion we are having, but I have to leave. I`m doing Floyd related artwork with my computer - trying to put the hammers on image of eclipsed moon that looks half-red. Maybe I could put it on APFFN when finished. Where can I post it?

I agree many good bands are from the UK but America has quite a few and there are other good bands out there...

Dream Theater formed in NY, nobody mentioned them. and they are imo great. best live show i've ever seen was dream theater.

The New Deal is some cool progressive music from Canada.

HIM is a good band from Finland

Shirley Manson of Garbage is from Scotland

Aviv Geffen is a very talented guy from Israel. He collaborated with Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree for this band that released a self titled album called "Blackfield". Its really good stuff. You can hear sound clips of every song at www.blackfield.org

And of course we got U2 from Ireland, although i don't dig their newer stuff too much.

SOAD are from USA but they have some roots from Armenia. very nice! you can also hears some armenian folk music in their music. kind of mixture of nu-metal and folk.

I like quite a few British bands.

MANSUN, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Nick Drake (does he count as British?), Led Zeppelin, VENOM and YES.

And probably others.

Why wouldn't Nick Drake count as British? Anway he is trully amazing.

For a while I too was a bit arrogant thinking that the best music comes from the UK... but then I discovered the Grateful Dead, Smashing Pumpkins and phish.
