| Re: Crossroads Festival!!!! Well guys, I am back. It was the best damn musical event I've ever witnessed. We got there (me and my dad) at approx. 10:30 AM, and first went to the vintage gear display. We came back in time to hear Steve Vai play, which was awesome. I always imagined Steve Vai to be arrogant and pompous, but he really seemed like just a regular ol' guy. My mind is kind of blank right now...the performances after that included Pat Metheny, Jimmy Vaughan, Booker T & the MGs, Larry Carlton, Sonny Landrith, Bo Diddley, Vince Gill, and James Taylor. After them, Joe Walsh came in and played an awesome set. He was pretty funny too. And finally, my favorite part of the whole festival...On the schedule it said that B.B. King was up next. Well, when the curtains opened, Jimmy Vaughan came out, and just looked kind of confused and it looked like everybody was just rushing around and confused. Then Jimmy finally started playing for a little bit, and then he goes "are you ready for the blues!?!? ARE YOU READY FOR THE BLUES!??!! well here's the king of the blues! Mr. B.B. King!!!". And B.B. came out, and sat in a chair, and he was awesome. Him and Jimmy jammed for a while. B.B. stopped playing and said "One of my very best friends is comin' out here today, you all know who he is". Then Eric Clapton came out and sat down next to B.B.!! They continued to jam. And after a few minutes, B.B. said something like, "how about Mr. Buddy Guy!?!!?" and Buddy came out and started jamming with them. After a while, one of them said "John Mayer!" and John came and sat next to Buddy, and they jammed and jammed and jammed. John Mayer really shocked me! He is incredibly talented! This jam lasted approx. 45 minutes. The best part was when B.B. stopped and started saying "I am now 78 years old! I have been in this business for the very last time, and I thought I had seen my highest point. I was in sweden (I think..) this last week, and I met the royal family. Until now I thought that was the high point of my career, but now I realize, this jam right here, is the highest point of my career!!". Then B.B. and Eric left and Buddy and John jammed for a while. Once they were done, Carlos Santana came and played. It really sucked, I hated everything he played and everything he said. He seemed so phony and trying to act all humble but he was really sounding like a jackass. He said something like "I would love to thank Eric Clapton and everyone doing this concert. We are helping to heal the world. We are doing the opposite of Bush..." and then he went on to play a piece of shit song. But after a long enough wait, we finally got Eric Claptons full attention. He played with his band for about an hour, covering such hits as "Badge", "Layla", "I Shot the Sheriff", and "Cocaine". He also played some new stuff. Then, none other than Jeff Beck joined Eric to jam. We left after that, there were about 50,000 people there so we figured we'd better leave before them. Sorry if this review sucks, I'm a bit fried from sitting in a stadium for 11 hours. I'll talk about it more later. But it was definitely one of my greatest experiences so far. |
