Pros and Cons Question

first off, i have to say i think TPCHH is the one by far my favorite waters solo album, and its up there with my favorie PF albums as well. with the lyrical genius of roger waters and the incredible guitar of clapton, you cant do any better.

heres my question thouhg. in the song 'the pros and cons of hitch-hiking' one of the lines is 'do you remember dick tracey, do you remember shane?' i know who dick tracy is, but who is Shane? and why woudl the kid in the background be screaming "Shane!" is he another comic book character?

Re: Pros and Cons Question

Shane was originally played by Alan Ladd in a film of the same name however in a Dixon of Dock Green styled move, I'm pretty sure that he died at the end of it yet was resurrected for a series over a decade later, this time played by David Carradine (Bill, Grasshopper). The series also featured a young Jill Ireland, Charles Bronson's missus.

Re: Pros and Cons Question

Oh yeah, the opening credits to the series Shane feature Jill Ireland's screen son running across a prarie shouting the titular character's name at the top of his voice (in an affectionate manner). Is why.

I'm pretty sure that, after strapping on his shootin' irons one last time to sort out the bad guy, he rode off into the sunset.

how about yoko ono?

i searched alittle about yoko ono, and only found she was formally john lennon's wife and is a major peace activist?

whats the meaning of the lyrics talking about yoko ono telling roger waters to jump off a cliff, then saying something mystical (Herro)?

"""""
I'm standing on the leading edge
The Eastern seaboard spread before my eyes
"Jump" says Yoko Ono
"I'm too scared and too good looking" I cried
"Go on", she says
"Why don't you give it a try?
Why prolong the agony all men must die"
Do you remember Dick Tracy?
Do you remember Shane?

Child: "And mother wants you"

Could you see him selling tickets
Where the buzzard circles over

Child: "Shane"

The body on the plain
Did you understand the music Yoko
Or was it all in vain?

Child: "Shane"

The bitch said something mystical "Herro"
So I stepped back on the kerb again

"""""""

Re: Pros and Cons Question

Shane was the ultimate hero. What every kid looked up to be, same with Dick Tracy.

By the way, catch Shane (the movie) don't do the same for Dick Tracy (the movie) you'll be happy you did.
