Question hey

just saying hey...........been a fan of pink floyd for about 5 years. but i only have a few of their albums- dark side, wish you were here, animals (one of my favorites), the wall. i really like the songs echoes as well, but haven't ever heard anything else from meddles. i have a question....in the movie the wall they salute or whatever by crossing their wrists in the air. this same thing is also in the movie 1984. what is this? sorry for sounding ignorant.

Re: hey

Welcome to the site. As for your question, it has to do with opression or something, like the hammers.

Re: hey

As 1984 was written many years before The Wall was even a twinkle in Roger's psyche, I would say very definitely what.

1984 was written in the. . .30's was it? And that was before Roger was even born so unless George had a time machine, no.

Re: hey

1984 was written in 1948.

I also believe I remember seeing the arm cross thing in A Clockwork Orange but could be mistaken (it's been awhile since I've seen it). I always figured it was an English thing.

By the way, no reference in the book 1984 to arms crossed.

Re: hey

When the workers do the 2 minutes' hate thing every morning, I believe that they actually perform the 'arm crossing thing'

Re: hey

Maybe it's roots lie in Russian expressionism. Who knows?
