Re: Obscured by Clouds

So, I bought the album. Not bad. Better than More. Other than that, I can't think of another Pink Floyd album that it's better than. But, it is actually sort of good. Some of the tracks are good, but others aren't. It reminds a little too much of More. Oh well. Hmmm. I've tried to type this up without stopping. So what do the rest of you people think of this album? I kind of like Free Four, but that's all I can think of this album right now. So long.

Hiya Radio,

As always, I'll advise several more listens and then ask for your considered review.

ObC is another of those, to me, humorous, tongue-in-cheeky PF albums that grow into a firm favourite over time.

I mean, who could fail to smile at "Flash the readies [money]...wots uh the deal"?

Floydelicious,
Byron

Re: Obscured by Clouds

Obscured by clouds is my favourite Floyd album after DSOTM. And yes, it does have a real sense of humour about it, especially the poke at cod-psychedelia on "Absolutely curtains". It also doesn't have a OST vibe about it. I really like it.

Trying to keep up with the turning of the wheel,

Mark

Re: Obscured by Clouds

This will probably mark me as a freak or a nut forever.

But in "Absolutely Curtains"...Mr. Wright's playing somehow brought me to tears. I realise he is not the "primary" author of the song, but it seems to me that he is the primary PLAYER of it. I don't know exactly what happened, but something in the melancholy of the notes got to me. Maybe someday I'll have to write a poem to explain why, because prose completely fails to explain a reaction like that.

Don't you just love the Floyd? Not just for lyrics, but for music that somehow does things like that when you least expect it...

Re: Obscured by Clouds

ObC is a really good album, ane of my personal favourites. (Anyway, almost all Floyd albums are my personal favourites). The instrumental stuff is pretty good, and some songs are superbe.
The only thing on the album that annoys me
is that tribal chorus at the end. The beginning of "Absolutely Curtains" is very nice but I simply don't like the end.

Re: Obscured by Clouds

Interesting. I thought the tribal chanting was pretty neat, myself.

Ahh, well--you can see now that it all comes down to personal preference!

Re: Obscured by Clouds

I like this album a lot, esp. Dave's thing Childhood's End ! (haha)
But does anyone know about the album called OBC Remixes, which I bought (I thought it's the original one because the Remixes word was quite small and I didn't notice). I don't find it very entertaining, it's so bizzzarrre ;0) Can anyone tell me what is this ?

Re: Obscured by Clouds

Yes. I've only heard one of these so called "trance remixes" (I didn't buy it), which consisted of "Wish you were here" overlaid with "The Orb's adventures beyond the ultraworld". Both great albums (on their own)clumsily thrown together by some chancing doofus with a cross fader and a couple of CD decks. It doesn't work in any way, shape or form, and sounds shit.

Avoid.

Re: Obscured by Clouds

There are a whole wackload of these trance remixes. I don't remember which albums have them, but I'm sure they have them for Wish You Were Here, Meddle and Animals. But I haven't listened to any of them, so...

Re: Obscured by Clouds

af far as the CD goes, i'd give it a 3 out of 5 stars.

And I'm sure you all know ORB makes all the Pink Floyd Trance Remixes. I think they even released a collection of Floyd remixes under their name. U should be able to find alot, not sure of OBC though.

Re: Obscured by Clouds

I even found an Orb remix of Mr. Wright's "Runaway" (from "Broken China"). That song already has enough of a techno-ish sound, which I personally like. I can see why it lent itself to that treatment--wonder if they did "Satellite"?

The Orb remix is OK (I like certain techno sounds)...but it is definitely several pegs down from the original.

Re: Obscured by Clouds

I've listened to Obscured several more times now, and it's starting to grow on me. Wots... Uh, The Deal is stuck in my head, strangely enough. While it isn't as good as a lot of other albums, it's certainly better than a lot of Floyd's solo albums.

Wot's Uh The Deal is a nice song. But, as FW said, it all comes down to personal preference. Which is right!

Re: Obscured by Clouds

What's wrong with More? I love that album, and also the movie. It's really early 70s psychohippie atmosphere with a mediterranean touch.

Great. Phenomenal.

Not exactly where Pink Floyd were coming from though, is it?
