Of course, he's not working alone. IF there were to ever be another album (doubtful...but so far, all that's been denied is a TOUR)...I shall say that Mr. Wright has proven that he is more than capable of creating a concept album. Mr. Wright expressed mild disappointment in an interview that TDB did not move past simply being a themed album--that is part of why he made Broken China. Anyway, I think he could provide the conceptual centre for the album. It would be far more musically-oriented than an RW album, but I think it could be done.

I actually found the "coming back to life" theme of the Division Bell to be more meaningful than whatever the hell the Wall ended up being about, but oh well.

gasp! my god, what are you saying typhoon? The Division Bell is a very good album but it has a theme: communication. Animals is a true concept album... ingenious. piggies, doggies, sheep. granted much credit to G. Orwell on that one.

did Meddle has a concept or a theme? It was still good. or DSotM, didnt sound like it had a theme or whatever, cept for some guy complainin bout shit in the background from time to time. Anyways. Division Bell was good. Animals was better. Lyrically, and Musically.

I would definitely consider 'dark side' a concept album about "the things that make one go mad" I even think "Money" is appropriate and doesn't stray too much.
Meddle is a stretch. Actually, i don't think so. having "One of these days" as a "poignant appraisal of the contemporary social situation" and echoes as a cosmic journey through oceans, space and time...space odyssey anyone?
certainly the ultimate trip

Ok- The explanation for "One of these days", "poignant appraisal of the contemporary social situation" is just Roger being a smart arse. It's well documented that the "lyrics" were born from the fact that nothing seemed to be going right that day, and are nothing more than venting of the collective frustration. All Roger's saying, in Layman's terms is "We were having a shit day".

Cheers,

Mark

but then again, its followed by Pillow Of Winds, a mellow song. Then Fearless fits the puzzle, but San Tropez and Seamus? That went slightly off topic, wouldn't you say?

I mean how many of you, honestly, listen to Meddle and actualy do listen through those two tracks (4 and 5)?

Its interesting how most albums had actualy mood/settings/themes/comcept and this one didn't really.

Someone mentioned Gilmour not being able to write theme albums, but Momentary Lapse Of Reason was STILL better then The Final Cut.

I also listen to San Tropez from Meddle. I also usually listen to Seamus, only because it's so short.

I don't know, but when the lyrics start in San Tropez, I just skip it, either trying to hear the last track faster or because its just bad. Seamus just sucked. My opinion.

I do listen to both S-Tropez and Seamus. The second I like because of Dave singing blues and the first is just one sunny damn warm fine unusual PF song !!!
One of my friends says that S-Tropez is his fave song on Meddle !

I had always wondered what they were doing, other than playing their instruments, to make that poor doggy howl and wail so plaintively.

Gratified to see on the Live at Pompeii video that playing their instruments WAS indeed all they were doing, and one of them - can't remember which - was stroking the pooch as she/he wailed.

Ready? On three...Awwwwww.

Floydy-fleas,
Byron

p.s. And why wasn't Seamus given a vocals credit for the song on the album as well? Quite doggist I'd say.

p.p.s. Before anyone accuses me of being off-topic with this post - I know none of you would - I call your attention to the fact that Seamus IS a Dog. Woof woof. Bow wow.
