This may be a stupid question, but why does everyone say that Animals and the Division Bell are brother albums? Am I missing something? Someone please explain it to me, i'd me more than grateful.

Are you sure everyone says that?

I have never said any such thing, but I am after all only one person, which puts the kybosh to the universal set of "everyone" saying such a thing.

I would disagree anyhow with that comment about Animals and TDB. It's all subjective.

Floyd on!

Maybe it's more down to the production, more than anything....

If that's supposed to be a negative comment, then I'm afraid I have no understanding of it. Especially not with TDB, which is one of my three top favourite Floyd albums (three which tied for first).

It's not meant to be negative.

It's a suggestive observation.

Maybe not "everyone" but my point is that people have refered to TDB and Animals as being "brother" albums and i was having a hard time understanding why...not to be negative...they're both great albums...i'm just wondering why people would go as far as to say they are "brothers"

I could go off on a shpeeeeel about how TDB doesn't even remotely compare to my favorite album but I won't. I would be interested to know who says this and what their reasoning is.

I wouldn't go so far as to call them "brother" albums...but maybe it has something to do with how the concept is a little "looser" than some of the other albums like The Wall or The Final Cut. More like a themed album rather than a concept album.

That does NOT mean I don't enjoy Animals, though!

I'm not too sure about that, as Animals does have a concept, the whole animal thing. The Division Bell doesn't have as much of one, but Animals does.

This whole concept of 'em being brother albums is like "no way" man!! Who ever thought of such a thing. I would dare say that about the only thing I found nice on TDB was the guitar solo end for High Hopes

Well...i was reading through some of the other forums, and there was a conversation about how Animals and Division Bell were meant to be listened to together, because they were supposed to be "brother" albums...i was trying to find out what they meant...

I never thought about these albums in this way. For me they are absolutely different. A. has a concept, TDB doesn't, A. is depressive TDB is not, A. has more to do with lyrics, and A. doesn't have High Hopes )

actually i would think you'd have to say that the division bell does have a concept. its all about communication. especially cluster one.
