The Dogs of War is an awesome song. It's dark, overwhelming sinister and frighteningly ominus. Just like the dogs themselves. The saxophone captues the raging lunacy of the dogs, highlighting the mad delight they take in death and destruction. The message is that we need to leash the dogs and render them extinct. But the message is also that the dogs are here to stay. Pink Floyd got it right on both counts. Dave and Rick really pulled out the beast for this one. "Everything is green and submarine" this is not. I didn't know they had it in them, especially Rick. Guess it's true..."...we all have a dark side to say the least...".

I'm not sure Rick had anything to do with 'Dogs of War'. He rejoined the band as the final touches were being put on the album...

I don't think I'm an "unconditional" PF fan, but there aren't that many songs that really blow. I don't sit down and skip to "Bring The Boys Back Home" because on it's own it's fluff but it's a part of a narrative, so taken as a part of the whole, it fits.
I don't consider 'A New machine' as part of anything really because there is no narrative for it to further. It sounds terribly contrived and maybe a bit forced.
But then who am I?
