On "Set the Controls," Syd apparently plays the noodly little guitar noises in the background, while Dave plays the main riff. The jury is still out as to what it is Syd plays, if anything, on Corporal Clegg. I think he was out of the band by the time they started that track, but I could be wrong.

Let's say, for the sake of argument, the songs which Syd could be involved in. Remember A Day Set The Controls Corporal Clegg See-Saw Jugband Blues Let's say, for the sake of argument, the least amount of tracks that Syd has any possible involvement in. Remember A Day Jugband Blues I'd like to think of him being a large part of the record, but in truth it's mainly Waters and Wright writing the songs and performing.

...and a Whole Lotta Dave. Norman Smith might be singing on many of these songs as well. Last edited by Botley; 11-26-2004 at 06:33 PM.

Doesn't Syd sing on Let There Be More Light and Corporal Clegg?

Syd only sings Jugband Blues. Dave's voice does sound different in the early years.

| Yeah, it sounds like Syd sings with Dave on Let There Be More Light and Corporal Clegg. I can recognize Dave on both those songs, but also notice that there he is doubly-dubbed. Couldn't the other voice be Syd? Either Dave did a damn good job of sounding like Syd on those two songs, he had some crazy effects going to make him sound that way, or Syd himself actually sang along with him. Dave's voice really doesn't sound any different though otherwise. Dave sings the verse part of Julia Dream, Point Me at the Sky, and on A Saucerful of Secrets itself. I'm guessing he tried to emulate Syd's style early on, but, after hearing him sing Flaming, he really never sounded too much like Syd. Except on Let There Be More Light and Corporal Clegg, where he sounded exactly like Syd. By the time they recorded More and Ummagumma, you can hear Dave sing in his normal/non-nasal voice. | Yeah, Nasal Dave certainly does sound a lot like Syd, but nevertheless the Crazy Diamond was not present for the recording of Clegg or Light. |
