Re: Beatles reference? what?

Well, maybe not every band, but drugs sure weren't frowned upon.

Re: Beatles reference? what?

No one's denying the Beatles ever did any drugs. But when people start saying that EVERY song they write is about drugs is just silly.

Re: Beatles reference? what?

Not EVERY song, but there definitely were some references.

Like on Rick Wrights "See-Saw", he says "she goes up while he goes down, down". That sounds like someone is getting high to me.

Re: Beatles reference? what?

People also said that "Paul is dead". those kind of things were common in that time. I laugh everytime they say or ask me about Paul.....

Oh, and Paul did say that Lucy was referring to LCD (or at least the media confirmed it, but I don't belive anything at this time)

Paul did not compose that song.

The title of the song also happens to be named after a Seesaw. Which is a device that goes up and down. Rick has said he can't even play a single note when he's high, let alone compose.

Re: Beatles reference? what?

Coo coo cachoo? Isn't that from Mrs. Robinson? That's funny. Oh, and the song John wrote in response to everyone analyzing Beatle lyrics was Glass Oninon. This is where he says: the walrus was Paul. Just to annoy people basically! He tries to put in as many references to previous Beatle songs as he could.

LSD.

And John says this is absolutely not true. But it's too handy to be a crazy coincedence.

Actually, both songs were written for this purpose. Glass Onion is more in your face

Re: Beatles reference? what?

Cool. I didn't realize I am the Walrus was written with that in mind, but it make sense. It's such an awesome song. Also, did Paul really say Lucy in the Sky was really about LSD?? I have never heard him say this and they had always said that it wasn't. Even in Anthology he says it was about the picture Julian brought home. So when did Paul change his mind? Maybe he's going senile.

Re: Beatles reference? what?

Paul never specifically said the song was about LSD, but that it was "pretty obviously" influenced by drug use. I don't know how qualified he is to say that, he didn't write it or anything!

Re: Beatles reference? what?

LUCY IN THE SKY WITH DIAMONDS
(Lennon/McCartney)
JOHN 1980: "My son Julian came in one day with a picture he painted about a school friend of his named Lucy. He had sketched in some stars in the sky and called it 'Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds,' Simple. The images were from 'Alice in Wonderland.' It was Alice in the boat. She is buying an egg and it turns into Humpty Dumpty. The woman serving in the shop turns into a sheep and the next minute they are rowing in a rowing boat somewhere and I was visualizing that. There was also the image of the female who would someday come save me... a 'girl with kaleidoscope eyes' who would come out of the sky. It turned out to be Yoko, though I hadn't met Yoko yet. So maybe it should be 'Yoko in the Sky with Diamonds.' It was purely unconscious that it came out to be LSD. Until somebody pointed it out, I never even thought it, I mean, who would ever bother to look at initials of a title? It's NOT an acid song. The imagery was Alice in the boat and also the image of this female who would come and save me-- this secret love that was going to come one day. So it turned out to be Yoko... and I hadn't met Yoko then. But she was my imaginary girl that we all have."

got that from .. http://www.geocities.com/~beatleboy1/dba08sgt.html

Dang Cheese.. I thought you completely made that up. Weird isn't it?

Re: Beatles reference? what?

My theory is that John made up the story about Julian's picture (and drew it himself) for cover after everyone noticed the LSD connection.

I mean, tangerine trees, marmalade skies, kaleidoscope eyes, cellophane flowers, rocking horse people, Newspaper taxis,
plasticine porters with looking glass ties?

Sounds like an LSD trip to me.

Either that or a bad wine hangover.

Re: Beatles reference? what?

Yeah, agreed. Plus there are tons of quotes by Lennon on drugs, LSD in particular... Obviously they played a part somwhere in the Beatles's career.

Re: Beatles reference? what?

Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds was a term invented (believe it or not) by the CIA in the early 60's when they were still trying to find a use for LSD in their programs.

Of course they had known about it since before the Beatles' song.

Oh yeah and Lucy is a female entity who is very commonly seen (during acid trips, at least) and she comes on heavily to the tripper. Not just like putting her arm around you, I mean going ALL THE WAY.

I think the only way to come to any sort of conclusion is for us all to take two hits of "window pane" blotter acid and listen to the song about 20 times---this way we will all be in touch with the song and we can then make up our theories from there.

Of course I am kidding. Everyone has their own interpretations of songs, and people will believe what they want to believe. Hell, I have even heard that "yellow submarine" is supposed to have something to do with pot, I don't believe this, but the point is that once someone makes up their mind about something, it is very hard to change it.
