Re: gibson

First off, welcome! Second, my favorite guitar is a Les Paul. I have a Gibson Les Paul that I payed about $700 american for it. I've never been a fan of Epiphone, but if you like the way it sounds, that's what really matters.

Re: gibson

I think the Epiphone LP is a great guitar for the money. I was talking once to a luthier who was a self-proclaimed Gibson expert, and he said the only real difference is in the pickups. i.e., install Gibson p'ups in the Epi and you've got just as good an axe as a Gibson. I would think overall finish has got to be better with the Gib, and probably wood and material quality, but I've never seen an Epi that wasn't perfect. But then again, I haven't handled but a very few Epis.

Re: gibson

stratman I think you are right because I have played with gibson and there wasn't any difference in matter of playing! The difference was in sound but I think this is something that will be fixed with gibson pick-ups

paranoid android:you bought a new one or second hand? From where ?

Re: gibson

$700US is a helluva deal for a Gibson LP. P A must have got it from some desperate starving musician. Mine cost $1400US.

Re: gibson

If you want to recreate Gilmours sound, good luck with using a humbucker.

If you want to recreat his sounds you really do need single coil pickups.

Re: gibson

I bought my guitar at Guitar Center. It's a very bare bones LP. It's not shiny, and it doesn't have a round top. But it sounds and feels amazing.

Re: gibson

Where's Fulghy? Didn't we just do a Les Paul thread recently? About low-cost Epiphones, even?

I have this strong sense of deja vu...

Re: gibson

I think he's at his house. But you're thinking of the thread where he told us he was buying an Epiphone

Re: gibson

Don't get me wrong, I love the Les Paul as much as the next guy, but if you want to emulate the Gilmour sound you'd be much better off with a strat (a Fender, not a Mender)
