Actually, I DID have two post-RW PF songs under serious consideration. In order of how much they mean to me...

1) "Wearing the Inside Out"
(Why? Sorry--I don't wish to elaborate on the experience; no offence to anyone.)

2) "Learning to Fly"
(I have pilots in the family. Very sentimental.)

Or...

"Hey you, don't tell me there's no hope at all."

More spine shivering stuff.

Ahem...at the mo,(and I must stress it) :
"there is no sensation to compare to this, suspended animation, a state of bliss"
"I knew the moment had arrived of killing the past and coming back to life"
"cause you know you can always make my poor heart melt" (this is not PF lyrics, it's from Dave's Cruise which is one outstanding song !).
But it came from top of the head, I must admit I love lots of Rog's lyrics too ))

Paraphrasing,

Hey Joker Wild,

In the current Mojo interview, Mr. Gilmour is said to much prefer 'David' instead of 'Dave'.

"And I wonder who could be writing this song."

I reserve judgement. I'm very much a simpleton when it comes to PF (I haven't heard much anyways and I like a LOT of stuff. But I would say that Breathe would do it.

This is an interesting question, as the resultant discussion (concerning the latter-day Floyd's lyrical inferiority) highlights a key difference between Roger and Dave. Roger's lyrics are usually far too conceptually dense, making it difficult to isolate anything less than half a song (sometimes even half an album!) to answer this question. Dave's stuff, on the other hand, usually isn't very well developed. So in other words, Roger says too much, and Dave says too little--beautiful dichotomy, isn't it?

But despite Dave's difficulties, "Learning to Fly" is really a wonderfully deep piece of music, illustrating the persistence of the human spirit despite failure:

"A soul in tension, that's learning to fly.
Condition grounded, but determined to try.
Can't keep my eyes from the circling sky.
Tongue-tied and twisted, just an earth-bound misfit, I"

And from Roger's Floyd work (which is really a tough call, so I'm using brevity as the chief determinant here), I'd probably go with this piece from "Time", since It just seems to echo my own life:

"Every year is getting shorter,
Never seem to find the time.
Plans that either come to nought,
Or half a page of scribbled lines."

As an aside, I just thought I'd mention that if we were looking for the coolest Floyd lyric, I would have to go with this one from "Sheep":

"Bleating and babbling, I fell on his neck with a scream.
Wave upon wave of demented avengers march cheerfully out of obscurity into the dream."

Roger outdid himself with that one!

There's so many great lyrics, but I really like the last part in Echoes:

"And no-one sings me lullabies,
And no-one makes me close my eyes,
So I throw the windows wide,
And call to you across the skies..."

That is pure poetry, beautiful

Personnally, I really think that the best lyrics are in "Echoes", because you can't listen to this song without singing it and be transported by those words! These lyrics can take an incredible amount of different meanings, depending on how you feel and how your brains is awakened. It's a great piece of art and for me the best of all Pink Floyd songs, just like "Meddle" is their best album!

Amabassador, that is one of my faves too !
Strange that from TDB no one mentioned High Hopes, something like "the grass was greener the light was brighter...the endless river forever and ever..."
Really really hard to chose.
