The piece of Bizet's The Pearl Fisher which Dave played on the Meltdown in June...a fantastic one !
I tried to search the net, but I couldn't find the lyrics to that piece.
I'm just dying to sing along with Dave you know LOL
Thanks.

I know that Je Croix means "The cross" but I don't know what the rest means. I'm only six weeks into French 1.

That's the best I've got!

What do I know?....I'm just a dirty long snapper for punt and field goal teams!

No offence, Madcap, but I thought the word "Je" means "I."

Also, to add to this, my guess is that "entendre" would translate as "meaning." (Such as in the French-derived English expression "double entendre.") Since "entender" means "to understand" in Spanish, I think this is a reasonable guess.

Joker, could you post the lyrics and translation (if that's what you found) for all of us? I'm a bit curious!

ok i'll try, but i'm not sure what will happen encoding-wise. i don't have some specific French letters here and unfortunately I deleted the original file...
-----
Je crois entendre encore
cachÈ sous les palmiers
sa voix tendre et sonore
comme un chant de ramier
o nuit enchanteresse
divin ravissement
o souvenir charmant
folle ivresse, doux rÉive
aux clartÈs des Ètoiles
je crois encore la voir
entr'ouvrir ses longs voiles
aux vents tiÕdes du soir
o nuit...etc
charmant o souvenir...charmaaaant o souvenir
-----
and the translation goes like this :
---
i still believe i hear
hidden beneath the palm trees
your voice tender and deep
like the song of a dove
oh night enchantress
divine rapture
delightful thought
mad intoxication, sweet dream
in the clear starlight
i still believe i see
in between the long sails
of the warm night breeze
oh night...etc.
-----

Hope it helps. I don't know any French at all, but i thought that "souvenir charmant" means something like "precious present/memory", not "delightful thought"...maybe i'm just thick
Btw, FW, I have seen your site and I was very pleased to read some sweet words about Dave there - thank you

Thank you very much for posting that, Joker. There is an incredible poetry to those lyrics...I don't read French, but the translation was beautiful. I can imagine that it is even more so in the original language...and what a privilege it would be to hear DG singing it!

And I am very glad you enjoyed my website!
