| Re: solos Jimmy Page is the man, that's how. I haven't listened to that song in awhile, but i assume you mean the intro is playing and theres him playing a solo at the same time? if that's the case, 2 seperate tracks, 2 guitars? who knows. Jimmy Page is still the man. |

| Re: solos Precisely. Just noodle when youre bored, thats how I have discovered evrything I can do on a guitar. After teaching myself scales I evemtually started going up and down the scal bending every second note. From there I started improvising, and from there new techniques just fell in my lap. Practise makes perfect.

| Re: solos Those aren't solos. Those are fills. Moby Dick is easy. It's good though. But yeah, just practice. |

| Re: solos Learn scales, or do as me (im starting at music school in august :P:P), just play around. Put on a song, and play solos to it. Youll learn what sounds good to each other, and youll get a feeling of what to play next. And when your doing this youll also get feeling in your fingers, and be a much better guitarist, and now im joining a music school to teach me the scales etc. |

| Re: solos Scales are the way to go. Without them you will be a shit guitarist. After a while playing the scales you will learn what will sounds good as a next note, and you will know where it is on the scale.

well then, I must say that scales are actually just a learning tool for beginners. the truth is that when you become more experienced you forget about scales and even tend to use every possibility to get away from their borders, so your solos would become more interesting. That's what makes jazz guitarists so good. Oh, and Dave too. |

| Re: solos Minor pentatonic scale. Learn it, move it to where the E bar chord of the key of the song is then move up and down it in random orders until you become great. Then throw in some bends and learn how to connect the scale to other minor pentatonics so you can go up and down the fretboard and you've got a basic soloing style... It's really that simple. Then of course learn some floyd and zeppelin solos etc to get any new random techniques. of course I'm self-taught so I wouldn't know whether or not this is helpful to anyone but me, or indeed makes and sense musically... Minor pentatonic scale (roughly) in F (ish) ---------------------------1-4----------------------------------------- ----------------------1-4---------------------------------------------- -----------------1-3--------------------------------------------------- ------------1-3-------------------------------------------------------- -------1-3------------------------------------------------------------- --1-4------------------------------------------------------------------ transpose and stuff for other keys you can then take it further by also using the minor pentatonic in A#. and then move everything up and octave for higher shit etc... you'll get the hang of it, and don't be afraid to liberally wander off key, that's how great solos are made... |

Yep that's what I had in mind, although this is not advisable for beginners... they tend to get confused. It will allcome naturally. Last edited by tiger : 07-25-2004 at 03:49 PM. |
