Question Gerry Scarfe - Wish You Were Here

Hi.

Is there any hope to see the animation movie of Gerry Scarfe for Wish You Were Here on the net? Does anybody know an address? Do you know if the animation is planned be released on DVD or something like that?

Thanks!

I personally have never seen it, except for the bits that ended up in the Wall movie. On the DVD commentary, Gerry mentions that the man falling and turning into a leaf and various other images from the Trial sequence were lifted directly from the concert film of which you speak. I think someone put together a bootleg compilation of all the concert films, and it might be on that (Video Anthology I believe it was called). But I don't know how they would have got it... I've never seen any more than 30 secs. at a time of 1977 tour footage, and it's always been crappy blurry close-ups on the band during the first half of the show, with nothing on Mr. Screen. And that's the only tour when the film was shown... I think. Sorry.

Thanks, Botley. I never seen the tour on video, but I've seen 1/3 from the animation movie created by Gerry Scarfe in 1995 (for the anniversary of the album) - some years after The Wall, in fact. It's a wonderful movie and it disappered completely from the net in 2002, so I wasn't able to see the whole of it. I'll search more...

Ah, you mean the mini-film made in Flash for the 25th anniversary. I haven't seen it in a while either. The one I was referring to was made in "real" animation (a la the Wall movie) which the band projected while they were playing the album on tour in 1977. Roger was reportedly so impressed with the results that he hired Gerry to design the entire Wall movie, album, show, etc. In fact, he still uses the Welcome To The Machine portion in his live shows to this day.
