| Ok I am an amateur Guitar player and currently I am writing some songs. I think I am doing ok, but constantly have to stop because realise that I have just stolen some Pink floyd chord progressions. Also I either write really long instrumentals that have no common structure or some shorter verse, verse, bridge, chorus verse. Bon Jovi type of ballad. I wish I could break my mental mold of western music. Does anyone know a few Good chord progressions? Something less "Take it back" and more "Marooned" Anyway Share your chord Progs with Me! Cheers!

| Re: Chord progressions Don't worry about too much structure. If you like what you write, then keep it. Don't worry if it has no chorus or whatever, that's how genre's are formed! |

| Re: Chord progressions Chord Progressions have been ripped off so many times before in popular music that it's unavoidable probably. You'd have to write some atonal stuff to escape it, maybe, but no one wants to listen to that. Here's some that I noodle around with sometimes: E D(or C) G A E C A7 F Ab Bb C B Bsus4/E, Em/G, B Em G D A mess around with those, I guess If you want something more like marooned, just keep playing a bunch of minor chords until something sounds interesting. try this maybe: Em Am Bm C Em the "C" chord might build too much tension for such an atmospheric song. Also, add some extra notes to flourish chords sometimes, they can totally change the mood of the song. Especially the second scale degree, like in Pink Floyd's Breathe, which starts out with Em(add2). The F sharp really gives that chord the oomph it needs. Good luck! |
