Re: Rank the works of Radiohead.

1. The Bends
An amazing album. Perfect production, amazing guitar work...Radiohead never got any better.

2. OK Computer
There are some moments on this album that just depress me beyond words. Then, there are some moments (Paranoid Android, Subterrenean Homesick Alien e.g.) that just amaze me.

3. Amnesiac
Criminally underrated, especially because KID A was so well recieved. Some absolutely amazing songs (e.g. Packt Like Sardines In A Crusht Tin Box and Pyramid Song)

4. hail to the thief
It wasn't until recently that I truly got into this album. A fantastic album - like Bends meets Kid A and OK Computer.

5. Kid A
I used to own this, but someone purloined it before I truly got into it.

6. Pablo Honey
I liked it upon first listening, second time around I hated it.

That doesn't sound like Com Lag at all! Those songs rock though.

Re: Rank the works of Radiohead.

Nice try, Syd.

Anyway, this is interesting seeing other people's rankings. It appears I'm the only soul who thinks "Hail to the Thief" is their real standout piece. *shrug*

I need to buy their EPs, pronto. In specific, I'm dying to get the "My Iron Lung EP", because I've heard Punchdrunk Lovesick Singalong and love it to death.

Radiohead are okay. I guess I just don't "get" them.

"Palo Alto" just rocks, and I mean rocks. Again, not the best Radiohead b-side (that distinction belongs to "Talk Show Host"), but would have made a nice title track on OK Computer. Unfortunately, up against the context of that album, most of the tracks here would suffer in the shadow of its towering brilliance. Especially "Melatonin."

I would place Airbag/How Am I Driving above both the Com Lag and My Iron Lung EPs. I love the My Iron Lung EP, it's fantastic - Punchdrunk Lovesick Singalong, The Trickster, You Never Wash Up After Yourself - brilliant. But Com Lag is, in my opinion, patchy to say the least. Songs like Gagging Order are amazing, but Skttrbrain and Where Bluebirds Fly pale in comparison to tracks such as Pearly*, Polyethylene, A Reminder, Meeting In The Aisle etc.

But each to their own I suppose!

I just bought that today at Best Buy. I still need a proper version of Airbag/How Am I Driving?. That is an awesome EP right there.

Re: Rank the works of Radiohead.

Just for shits and giggles, I'm going to post my top ten favorite Radiohead songs with commentary.

1. Life in a Glass House ("Amnesiac")
When I first heard this song, I can't really describe how blown away I was. This was in a period of my life when I was obsessed with jazz -- playing it and listening to it. The horns combined with the piano and the vocals just made such a beautifully resonant combination, I could barely contain myself. Undoubtedly the best song the band has ever recorded, bar none.
2. Paranoid Android ("OK Computer")
The more and more I hear this song, the more my appreciation of it grows. The guitar work from Jonny is just unbelievable. I am also obsessed with the transition from the "God loves his children" section back to the original guitar riff. Just top-notch work, all around.
3. A Wolf at the Door ("Hail to the Thief")
Radiohead has consistently amazing final songs. They love to go out with a bang. The final verse of this piece gives me chills every time. Creepy and foreboding. Might be their coolest sounding song.
4. Black Star ("The Bends")
Perhaps the band's most heatfelt. Thom sings with incredible feeling. Their best acoustic song.
5. Pyramid Song ("Amnesiac")
I just love this one to death. So gorgeous. Probably my favorite Radiohead song, lyrically speaking.
6. How to Disappear Completely ("Kid A")
Sweeping and powerful. By far the standout of a slightly lackluster LP.
7. I Will ("Hail to the Thief")
Short, but sweet. Their second best acoustic. Something about it just amazes me with every listen.
8. Just ("The Bends")
One of the band's most traditional songs, but a tremendous rocker indeed. Nothing more needs to be said. A great example of an un-trippy but still outstanding piece from the band.
9. You and Whose Army ("Amnesiac")
Criminally underrated. Fuses rock, blues, and gospel in an amazingly spiritual finale. Oh, the things I'd do to see this one live....
10. 2+2=5 ("Hail to the Thief")
Multi-faceted and extremely fun. 'Twas almost certainly a meditation on the things that were to come in a Bush-lead America, and possibly the things that were to come in a world with Bush running its most powerful country. In any event, it's a head-nodder, for sure. I listen to it multiple times every day and used it in a short film I made.

Honorable Mention: We Suck Young Blood ("Hail to the Thief")

Re: Rank the works of Radiohead.

The only album I own is OK Computer, which I acquired just because I had heard so many good things about the album from people with similar music tastes. At first, I didn't get it. Now I am totally into it. Paramoid Android, Homesick Alien, The Tourist, Electioneering, on and on...wonderful album.

I have been reading this thread to see what I should get next. I don't see a dominant consensus...maybe The Bends?

Get "The Bends", yeah. Then I'd say jump to "Hail to the Thief" next, and then back up to "Amnesiac" and "Kid A". That's the most accessible order, I'd say.
