What's all this crap that Roger can't sing?

Very often i read somewhere that he can't sing this is bullshit. He may not have a very great singing voice but he can sing. It's like with Dylan you don't listen to the music because of the voice. Although i do prefer Roger's part with Dogs, and if what he's doing there isn't singing i just don't know anymore.

He seemed to stop "singing" and start sort of talk-singing around the time of TFC. Maybe he realised he couldn't actually sing after all.

Bob Dylan does the same thing sometimes, too.

Is the straining voice on 'Don't Leave Me Now' supposed to be representative of Pink's emotional anguish, or an actual picture of Rog's vocal ability? You decide.

Like all human beings, he has a vocal range that is comfortable for him to sing "conventionally" in. When he chooses to step outside that range, you get the screechy falsetto stuff around the Wall, TFC and Pros and Cons. I like it a lot, personally. An earlier precedent can be found in his screams in Careful With That Axe Eugene.

That is absolute bullshit!

Rog has a very speciffic voice, and that makes him so appealing, moreover - original.

The only problem with his voice is that he can't hold notes for very long time and he has to be backed by the choir.

No, this is not true. The screams you hear in "Careful with that axe..." are just screams, they're not musically related (they don't represent any particular note) and have nothing to do with his falsetto singing.

I suppose you'd rather listen to a George Michael or Rod Stewart record then, eh Cheesus?

I beg to differ. They do in fact correspond to musical notes (or sometimes do). In many live recordings that I've heard, Roger will slide up and down in glissando to imitate the guitar screeching Dave makes while Dave hoots along in vocal harmony.

Hit it George:

"Club Tropicana, drinks are free,
Fun and sunshine - there's enough for everyone.
All that's missing is the sea,
But don't worry, you can suntan!"

Rog can't sing, but I like his voice. Me and my friend always sing songs from the wall and try to sound like him. My friend James, who used to be a member here (PinksWall), can do a great impression of Rog.

Roger's voice isn't great. It's a bit weak, but it fits classics like ANIMALS perfectly. It's a bit too abrasive on WALL.
