the character of pink in the wall is an amalgamation of syd and roger, pink goes crazy just like syd, and the hidden message refers to "old pink, care of the funny farm", clearly syd. "darkside" features several references to syd (how about brain damage?). hey, you guys believe what you wanna believe. i know what i hear (for the record, waters DOES say "the wind cries mary". who's debating that one?). later...

Not that anybody will actually read this, but Roger is whispering "(please) sssssave me" at the end of this song -- nothing to do with Syd.

And that's why I keep all my vinyl in good shape - I think a lot of these theories have as much to do with cheap digital audio and wishful thinking as anything else.

Cool, a PF post.

Meh, I've only ever heard that song on vinyl one time (they had an LP of Relics in the music library at school). It was actually only repeated listening to a bootlegged mono edition of A Saucerful of Secrets that made it clear to me what was being said. I wish it could be made more widely available some day.

Botters, Are you confusing Julia Dream with Cymbaline from More, the latter of whose lyrics include the words "please wake me" as opposed to your "please save me"?

Re: The song: Julia Dream

Nope! Check out the mono mix of "Julia Dream" if you can find it (The Early Singles is a good source, so I'm told). The fade out lasts longer and the vocals are louder, especially at 2:15 where you can clearly hear Roger saying "please, save me" without as much echo muddying his voice.

And actually there was a dodgy LP in existence called "The Best of The Pink Floyd" — it had the stereo mix of "Julia Dream" on it a year before Relics!

Re: The song: Julia Dream

Unfortunately, I don't have that dodgy LP, but I do have The Early Singles and I have listened over and over again.

While it could very well be suggested that "please sssave me" is heard at about 2:15, I cannot positively claim that that is what I hear. But, at 2:25 "ssave me" can be clearyly heard.

So...something new perhaps for me to discover about my beloved Floyd.
