Rush concert review and a project for us all....

Sorry I have not taken the opportunity to update everyone as I had promised on the Rush concert on June 30th.... In a nutshell.. It was incredible..probably in the top 5 concerts I have ever seen (I've seen Pink Floyd 4 times).

There was no opener, they just came out and wailed. The started out with an instrumental medley of all their more recognizable tunes. I recall bits of Trees, La Villa Strangiato, Red Barchetta, 2112, Red Sector A, and others all intermingled.. it was awesome.

Their set was three hours of some of the most memorbale and powerful rock & roll for the ages. and these guys may be in the 50's now but Holy Hell... they have not lost a step. Geddy was prancing around the stage as he always has. Alex was hot. Man that SOB can play. He unleashed the best version of La Villa Strangiato I have ever heard that night. And Neil.. well hell, he's not refered to as the best rock drummer ever because he's a slacker. He did a 12 minute rendition of La Batterista (drum solo) that was just amazing.

I did notice that Geddys voice did crack one or twice, but that's just our altitude and dry climate here (we're at 5000 feet), it happens to just about everyone here.

Now I have a project for us faithful here at APFFN. Rumour has it that Neil no longer want's to tour after this road show is over. Alex and Geddy still love to play though. Now I seem to be aware of a band that lost a bass player a while ago.....hmmmmmm

We need to begin a grassroots campaign to get Geddy, Alex, Dave, Rick, and Nick together for a project. Can you imagine Dave and Alex swapping licks....Oh man.. Call it Pink Rush..Rush Floyd. Hell call it Wanda and color it chartruse for all I care.

It'd be amazing, whatever you call it.

I saw the concert a few weeks ago on the 9th.
It was definetly amazing. Favorite songs from the concert: YYZ, Drum Solo and Red Barracheta.

He did this last time, and it seems he hasn't learned, Geddy Lee yells out, "Hello San Francisco" and we are in Mountain View! The crowd boo's and the band is all confuesed.

This daylight savings has really messed everything up. The concert didn't get dark until after the intermission so the lighting effects were all messed up. But when it did finally get dark the lighting effects were pretty good in: Red Sector A and Dreamline.

Awesome concert, highly reccomended.

The only bad thing was that the setlist was awfully similar to the one in Vapor Trails. They really did not make many changes. Hopefully they don't turn into YeS (which does the same set list over and over and over again) there's nothing wrong with the setlist, but i'd like to hear some different songs too.

I love P.F and Rush but I don't think they would work well together. Two completely different styles.

Yeah and Geddy's bass-playing is closer to Guy Pratt's than Roger's really. Although he could certainly handle Roger's vocal range!

I think the chances of Geddy and Alex getting together with the Floyd are about as good as Jon Bonham reuniting with Led Zeppelin. Curious where you've heard the rumors of Neil wanting to stop touring, cuz I'd heard Rush is planning to go back in the studio in 2005 and touring down the road, but who knows?

Anyway, saw the boyz last weekend in Las Vegas and in irvine before that, and, yah, Fulgham, you pretty much nailed it. Nothing like a Rush concert because the fans are so damn loyal and passionate about Rush that it creates an amazing vibe. Half the audience singing along to even the most obscure of songs. Just awesome.
Sometimes it's kind of sad watching aging rock groups continuing to tour and trying to suck every dime they can out of tour with mininmal effort, but these guys have not lost a thing. Just amazing for guys in their early 50's to go out and rock with that energy.

Did anyone else see the Irvine show where Jack Black came out on stage during 2112 and posed liked the starman on the dryer? Then he was trying to mess Geddy up by mocking him on Bass. Very funny.

Nice review Fulghum, thanks

I saw Canadian's premier power trio (sorry, Triumph fans) last Monday night in Saratoga Springs, and it was a great show - not their best (IMHO), but a great show (as all the other RUSH concerts I've seen since the early 1980's have been).

Highlights for me were "Red Barchetta" and "Xanadu". I was kinda bummed they didn't play "Freewill" (first time I've seen them where they didn't play it - it's one of my favs).

Geddy was in fine finger and voice form, Alex can still lay down the power riffs, and Neil...well as Fulghers said...he's simply the best rock drummer out there. I found myself (as I often do at a Rush concert) just focusing on Neil.

A great 3+ hour show, that's for damn sure!

Don't worry Term, I suspect there are more Triumph fans than one might imagine, I love their GH's CD. One thing about the Cheese master, it's very hard to tell if he's being facetious or sarcastic, that, I assume is intentional. (sorry Cheese, maybe I'm wrong) Without tonal inflections, it's almost impossible to tell the difference between the two.

Cheese I can't tell if you like Triumph or not, if it was said facetiously, then that would indicate that you LIKE Triumph, so far I can't determine that, no harm, no foul.
