Re: Limp Bizkit sings Floyd

Along the same lines, but with a twist: I saw Aerosmith in concert this summer. I new band called "Fuel" was the opener. Fuel began one of their songs with an intro of Pink Floyd music. I can't remember for sure which song it was, but I think it was "Comfortably Numb." Anyway, the sold out crowd went nuts, standing up and screaming. It was the best reaction that band got all night from the crowd.

Re: Limp Bizkit sings Floyd

i thought the limp bizkit version of wywh sucked for two reasons. one, fred durst isn't a good singer, and 2, by changing the lyrics and mainly saying "so glad you were here" he changed the entire concept of the song.

Pearl Jam opened their Las Vegas show from last year with Interstellar Overdrive segueing into Corduroy, which was just awesome.

Re: Limp Bizkit sings Floyd

I agree. Do cover's if ya want. But don't ever screw around with the song. I mean with the lyric and stuff. A lick here or there is OK but major changes.....no. By the way, I don't like this covers business at ALL

Re: Limp Bizkit sings Floyd

Covers aren't all that horrible. If someone enjoys playing music and likes to perform, but isn't very good at writing music, then why not perform songs by other people? Or, in cases where popular bands are performing them, it's almost a tribute really, saying "I think this band is awesome" sort of thing. Who knows, maybe some of those people who heard Fred Durst perform Wish You Were Here seeked out the original version, bought the Wish You Were Here album and became a Pink Floyd fan.

Re: Limp Bizkit sings Floyd

So for all of you who detest "covers" of Floyd: Lets say you are in a band, and since you are a Floydian you decide to be a "Pink Floyd cover/tribute band". Is it still as horrible as you say it is now? Or is it different b/c you are an avid Pink Floyd fan? Just a question.

Re: Limp Bizkit sings Floyd

See RogerWaters' entry above.

Covering is one thing. Fooling around with the song is quite another.

Re: Limp Bizkit sings Floyd

It was terrible. Limp Bizkit is probably the worst band of all time. Fred Durst is A No talent hack and the cover made me sick.

Re: Limp Bizkit sings Floyd

heh heh, ok, i've loved floyd since my dad bought me the wall on vinyl when i was 3 years old
i haven't heard limp's version of WYWH, but, i'm about to go search the web for it and have a listen....

they say immitation is the sincerest form of flattery... well, i don't know about that with some of the covers i've ehard, but, i like limp so i'll give them the benefit of the doubt...

what they should have done is a verbatim version of Sorrow, am i the only one struck by that song as a fitting tribute song?

well, maybe not cause WYWH maybe has a little brighter tone to it than Sorrow.. but, eh....

anyway, new to the site
Floyd in '94 at Foxboro stadium was one of the best experiences in my life, heh, wasn't better than sex, but it was a close second....

Re: Limp Bizkit sings Floyd

BoaB,
Correct me if I'm wrong. But didn't Roger change the lyrics to "Brain Damage" on his "In the Flesh" double album? And, aren't the guitar solos(Numb), drums(Time),keyboards(Shine On)etc. also different? To me, the performers with Roger are really nothing more than a cover band. Respect them I will. But, none the less they have all changed a song or two in someway. Not much, but enough that any Floydian would notice. But still, they messed with the original. And I personally like the way they perform them. Not more so then the originals, or live tracks from the 70's. The drum solo for Time from that show is almost better then Nick's. But not quite. Also, if you listen to the "original" versions of, lets say, Dogs, performed live before they recorded it for the Animals album, it is completely different then the studio version. I know of at least two different versions of it. Both are different than the studio. And, if someone want's to be anal about it, the earlier live versions of Dogs, On the Run, etc. ARE the true originals. Don't get me wrong, Limpy's version was horrible when compared to Floyd. But when you compare it to other covers, it's not so bad. So I guess it just depends on who you compare it to. By the way, I'm not trying to stick up for all things that are Limp I think he's a jackass. But at the end of the day, I think we all agree that we would rather have seen Dave or Roger or even both (yeah right!) do it like the original. But lets all be real here. Would the humanitarian, politically correct, sensitive wussies of America and the rest of the World allow lyrics such as "Heroes for ghosts" when we all look at the victims and firefighters/police as heroes? Or "A walk on part in a war"? Yeah, everyone knew it was going to happen, but as I said earlier, there are some wussies in this world that don't look any further than their front door and believe all is good in this world. C'mon, these over sensitive types are wanting any picture/scene removed from all these movies, TV shows, and magazines. B/c they may "offend" someone. For those who live here in the States, you know what I'm talking about. I would have seen nothing offensive about the original lyrics. However, we must take what we can get. And that was Limpy, not Floyd. Like it or not. Ok, now my brain hurts.

Re: Limp Bizkit sings Floyd

That thing you said about Roger changing parts of the music is irrelivant. They have rarley performed anything live that sounds exactly like the studio version. I have always been pissed that Dave cuts out half of (Part IV) of Shine On since 1987. I think we'd all rather have them change stuff on their songs rather than the man who will single handedly ruin Interscope records with his terrible signings. I would have rather stood through Master P singing(or rapping)
A version of Echoes.

Re: Limp Bizkit sings Floyd

Anonymous (the second one if the two are different),

It may be true that Roger (and the other PF boys) may change their songs during Live gigs, at least the songs BELONG to them.

One would NEVER hear a song Live played the same way as the studio recordings, obviously, but seeing them up on the stage makes one forget about the differences. It does me, anyway.

I can't speak for the "humanitarian, politically correct, sensitive wussies of America and the rest of the World" but it cannot have escaped notice that indeed what we DID do was trade our "Heroes for ghosts". And now, many young people are happily trading their serene, hum-drum lives for "A walk on part in a war" and to what end? To be abandoned, eventually, by the very people who sent them to war?

It's just a shame that the over-sensitive types are decideing what we should or should not see or hear or be exposed to. Also a shame that the wussies are in the majority so nothing is likely to change there.

I come from America, so I know how it is, and incidentally, is one of the reasons why I left the place.

So, my feelings on the matter remain unchanged. I'm a contentious fekker, I know.

Faithfully Floydian,
Byron

Re: Limp Bizkit sings Floyd

All I'm gonna say is Limp Bizkit is the worst band on the planet and I haven't heard it, though I'm sure it was shit. I did see Fred Durst performing "Thank You" with Jimmy Page and it was the worst cover of a Zeppelin song ever, I practically lost my lunch. I'm sure this one was no different and one doesn't know whether to laugh or cry.
