Re: Limp Bizkit sings Floyd

Hello to everyone. I've been checking this web-site out quite often over these last few months and finally decided to join the forum. This is my first post so I hope it hasn't been covered yet. I have not seen anyone mention it so I wanted to see if anyone had seen it. Anyway, on the telethon for the Sept.11 victims which aired a few weeks ago, Limp Bizkit and John Rzeznik did a cover of "WYWH". They changed it around a bit but it actually sounded very good. Personally, I'm not a big fan of anyone re-making a Floyd song b/c they usually ruin it. But this one was done in good taste. Anywho, just wanted to see what all of you thought about it.

I didn´t like it
Wish you were Here is a perfect song, and it was a huge mistake for Lim Bizkit to change the Lyrics.

Hiya floydboy75,

Welcome to the greatest Pink Floyd website on the planet.

This subject was indeed discussed elsewhere on this site in the General forum under the Fred Durst Must Love Ripping Off Floyd thread started by Not Now John.

Some, like you, don't mind the re-jigged version, while others, like me, absolutely detest it. To each their own.

Have a look and enjoy.

Byron

Floydboy

Welcome to the machine !

It's interesting to hear cover versions of this sort, a tribute in a way. However, personally I am not a huge fan of this type of thing.

I think they took everything that made Dave's vocal performance so wonderful and told it to bugger off.

Re: Limp Bizkit sings Floyd

I think I was misunderstood. When compared to the original "WYWH", yes. It did suck. Any remake of any song by any artist sucks when compared to it's original. But if you compare Limp Bizkits' version of "WYWH" with the many other ones out there, his doesn't seem so awful. Yes, he did change the words, but there was a reason. I thought it was cool that out of all the choices he could have made for a song, he picked a Floyd one. To me, at least it wasn't some pathetic "rapper" like Puff Daddy doing a remake like he did with the Police and "Every Breath You Take". That, to me, is an insult. But, I do agree with all of you. Limp Bizkits' version did suck. But not when it is compared to others that sound way to "techno" and so far from the original. I hope that clears my opinion a little more.

Re: Limp Bizkit sings Floyd

You know I have to disagree.

Take Steps, for example: Their version of The Bee Gee's "Tragedy" is far superior to the original.

Yeah?

Re: Limp Bizkit sings Floyd

To be honest, I find all "covers" or "tributes" to be interesting. I'm always willing to listen to them. No, I don't like them all. In fact, I've bought about 5 or 6 "tribute" albums and they have all sucked. I had to just laugh otherwise I'd just go nuts that I had just wasted $15 on a pile of horse dung! But some aren't bad. I've never heard that one from the Bee-Gees. So I'll have to take your word for it. Have you ever heard Les Claypool do the complete "Animals" album? That actually sounded pretty good. But still, it's not Floyd. And once you've heard Floyd play the entire album "Live" back in 1977 or in it's early stages, it's hard to like another.

floydboy75:
Whatever his reasons for changing the lyrics the result was a huge pile of parrot fish poo.

fixxy:
No! You know full well, neither version of Tragedy is worth the vinyl/plastic/(whatever the hell they make CDs out of) its printed/impressed upon.

Fastidiously Floydian,
Byron

p.s. Steps is a vacuous, addlepated pop singing group of three women and two men who put out the worst sort of dross. Popular only because the less co-ordinated amongst the populace can mimic the group's inane "dance" gestures and think themselves cool. Gah!!!

Bring back Take That or the Spice Girls. Errp! (j/k)

Didn't hear the remake.
Don't know how it sounds. Probably it sucks. Thought I Like Limp Bizkit, Pink Floyd is far musically superior. Compared to Floyd, LB sucks big time.

Re: Limp Bizkit sings Floyd

You could probably find an MP3 of it on WinMX or any other post-Napster clone.
