the ummagumma live album cover

i just recently bought ummagumma and was looking at the live album cover and noticed that the picture on the back of the case is a reflection of the picture on the front. i was just wondering if anyone else noticed that and if anyone knew how they did it.
(my hypothesis is that they used some sort of mirror)

It's hard to tell on the CD because the cover is so small...but it's actually a picture inside a picture inside a picture etc. In each picture the band members are in slightly different poses and if I recall correctly, if you look into enough pictures it's the saucerful of secrets cover or something. From what I understand you need the record to see this because the CD picture is just too small.

Damn, looks like I need a custom avitar.
Anyway, congratulations, Ummagumma is definitely a milestone in the career of Floyd, but its almost as if it is four solo albums one one disc. Although Granchester Meadows & The Narrow Way are awesome. The live albm is okay.

I have a theory. For my example let's number them pictures 1, 2, 3, and 4.

After taking them(Obviously!) they made copies of them. Picture 1 was shrunken and placed in the frame in picture 2. That was turned into one picture and shrunken to fit in picture 3. That was all one picture and then shrunk into picture 4. That was turned into one picture and continuously shrunk into any other picture until the cycle couldn't be seen.

You could try it in adobe photoshop or something, it's kind of fun.

I think he means the live album cover, not the studio one

I can't believe you feel that way. The Narrow Way pt.3 has got to be one of my favorite songs. But you just have to take it w/ an open mind, a more laid back approach. I agree, though, there are quite a few tracks that just have noises & keyboards & drums, but this album really begins to define the band, which eventually led to Atom Heart Mother.

Anyone has any idea why they put that "Gigi" record in the picture?

I concur with Lumiere... the Gigi album certainly doesn't have anything to do with the music. Confused the hell out of me when I first heard it!

Cor! I never noticed that before (he's talking about the front of the Live Album cover, where Alan Stiles is standing on the left and Peter Watts is standing on the right, and how it is a mirror image of the back of the Studio Album CD case where Alan's on the right and Peter's on the left). Probably just a printing error. Incidentally, did you know that Peter Watts' daughter is Naomi Watts from Mulholland Drive? It's true.
