meddle...Then jump to Division bell(if you like gilmour) or Animals if u like Waters.

Then you MUST at least get acquainted with The early works (perhaps relics)

I'd say get the Echoes collection and decide what songs you like on there, then go for those albums.

You should get The Final cut and Animals, two of their greatest in my opinion. But it may well be not your opinion, so listen to them first i think Meddle would be a great choice to.

I think that if you can really appreciate Floyd's music, and if your serious about completing your collection, you should start at the beginning and work your way up.

This way you can see the band changing throughout the years. Sure, there is only a three year time period between Piper at the Gates & Atm Hrt Mthr, but these albums couldn't be more different than eachother.

Whichever route you choose, you will be pleased with all the amazing music you have discovered.

For some reason, "Not Now John" is frequently misinterpreted. A lot of people don't seem to find the irony of its context in the rest of the album. For the past 40 minutes Roger has basically been pleading with us to "sheath the sacrificial knives" and wondering "what have we done?" Then there's this obnoxious new voice barging in after the most intimate moment of the album going "stuff all that" (well, on the radio edit).

This attitude takes over, and the album ends with a nuclear apocalypse. Doesn't sound very upbeat to me!

Go for, in this order:

1. Meddle - Contains Echoes, plus a bunch of other good, but not great songs. Try to get it used/cheap. It definitely wasn't worth the $20 I spent for it, but Echoes is the best song ever.

2. Animals/The Division Bell - I find myself listening to The Division Bell a lot more often than Animals. Division Bell is very melodic and melancholy, with more actual songs, while Animals is raw and biting. Both great albums.

4. The Piper at the Gates of Dawn - I don't have this album yet, listen to other people.

5. The Final Cut - I don't have this one yet either. It's too much to pay right now for an album that, from what i'm hearing, could result in my suicide.
