Why was Rick Wright sacked?

Hi all, I'm new to the forum...so bear with me...why was Rick Wright sacked.?..or did they plan to wind down after the wall...did they engineer the breakup because they were tired?...

was it just Roger's ego?...or is there more to it?

i think it went something like after the wall, rick wasnt in a good state of mind to write music, and the rest of the guys asked him to just start writing anything, but he couldnt do it. roger gave him the boot. im sure theres more to it though, i dont know the whole story.

yeah, that makes sense, in the Uncut interview recently..Roger is reticent about speaking about it at all, I reckon that they were covering for Rick...and probably the whole band...after the wall...I mean they were at it for years...and probably hadn't had time to sit back and simply enjoy life...To my mind I reckon the whole break up was moreover due to this then personality politics...although I guess in this kind of situation the personality politics would have become bigger than usual...

This link points to an archived version of an interview with all four members of the band which perfectly sums up what was happening at the time. Unfortunately, as it is archived on the WaybackMachine server, it may not work depending on the time of day. Keep trying though! It's a REALLY fascinating read.

Without looking at the link, I have always understood it that Roger Waters criticized him for "lack of new material". I also heard he had a cocaine habit and retreated to Greece.

While this is what Rog has been saying for years, Rick's side of the story is also expressed in the article.
