AMLOR, sound 80's to you?

Well, it was recorded in '80s. That's why I don't like it as much as other Floyd records, the '80s sound wears on me.

Yeah, just another example of how the 80s destroyed another band left over from the 70s... Ex. Jethro Tull, The Who, Genesis, Led Zeppelin, Roger Waters...etc etc

I hated it because it sounded too 80's first time I listened to it but on further listens though still oddly 80's it is a good album.

The Divison Bell strikes me as an eighties sound record... Think abootit: glossy eighties production, bouncy pop songs (like 'take it back') and watery synths.

Quite a few albums recorded in the 70's (not to mention 90's) suffer from that glossy, over-synthed 80's sound. The Division Bell and In Through the Out Door arguably both fit in this category.

I just recently bought 'A Momentary Lapse' & "Division Bell', and yes, both of these albums have a very 1980's sound to them. The first listen of 'Momentary Lapse' wasn't too good of an experience, because I guess I didn't enjoy the album very much; but after listening to it more, this album strikes me as a very good one. It suprised me how well Pink Floyd still played & sounded, even after the departure of Roger Waters. "Signs of Life", "Learning to Fly", "Dogs of War", "One Slip", "Yet Another Movie", and "Terminal Frost" are all amazing songs. "An New Machine pt 1 & 2" isn't as good as the old machine I remember from before, but it still sounds okay. The one thing that dissapoints me about the album though is the fact that Richard Wright contributed nothing to the writing of the album, but he did contribute a little to 'Division Bell', and you can sure hear the difference. 'The Final Cut' has a bit of an 80's feel to it, but the "sound of Waters" usually dominates the entire album, and it is extremely depressing. 'A Momentary Lapse' doen't feel very depressing to me at all, it is a very fine album from the band Pink Floyd. 'The Wall' has some 80's in it, but once again, the Roger Waters' sound prevails.

I do think the 80's sheen destroies LTF I can't stand that song due to it, on other tracks ie Sorrow, it makes them posotivly glow.

When I first bought this album, 1. I didn't know the band broke up 2. I didn't know it was made in the 80's Once I listened and looked at the inside of the album, I was shocked! Thus I ran to the internet searching for answers and I wound up here. I personally am not a big fan of the album, and I agree with you that it sounds very 80's. That's probably the biggest reason, it just sounds kind of corny.

I had AMLOR on my car CD player today, in fact I didn't listen to it in a while and I have to say, it's a damn good album, to say the truth.
