| The ULTIMATE Pink Floyd Collection Okay, I know there have been threads about what songs you would pick to put on a "best of" CD, but this thread is a little different. This thread puts YOU, the Pink Floyd fan, in charge. Let's just say, some loose ends in Pink Floyd history have been tied up, and EMI* & Capitol* have decided to release a 4-Disk set, spanning the career of Pink Floyd from 'Piper at the Gates' thru 'The Final Cut'. EMI* and Capitol* have put you in charge, and they are letting YOU decide which tracks should go onto the set. Remember, this set of CD's is aimed mainly at the people who are not familiar with Floyd's music. *this thread not affiliated with EMI or Capitol, this is merely a "what if" situation. The guidelines are that each disc have to be AROUND ONE HOUR of listening time. Try to fit the songs together best to present what YOU think would best show Pink Floyd's sound, attitude, and style. You may comment as to why you believe certain songs should be on the album. Do not worry about sound effects, intro's, or outro's, all unneccesary sounds can be edited out. Futhermore, here is MY Ultimate Pink Floyd Collection: >DISC ONE:1967-1969< 1. Astronomy Domine 2. Interstellar Overdrive 3. The Gnome 4. Chapter 24 5. Remember A Day 6. Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun 7. Corporal Clegg 8. Jugband Blues 9. Cirrus Minor 10. The Nile Song 11. Main Theme 12. Ibiza Bar 13. More Blues 14. The Narrow Way pt.3 -Okay, this selection of songs, to me, is a fairly accurate representation for Floyd. The tracks that were picked from 'Piper' are very good, and give the listener a bit of insight as to who Syd Barrett was; we know that some of the songs from the album 'Piper at the Gates' take some getting used to. The rest of the album documents Pink Floyd's transititional points in the late 60's. It also gives a bit of a preview into what the second disk will be. I know the Narrow Way might not quite be Pink Floyd, but it is still a great song- >DISK TWO:1970-1972< 1. If 2. Summer '68 3. Fat Old Sun 4. One Of These Days 5. Echoes 6. Burning Bridges 7. Wot's...Uh The Deal? 8. Mudmen 9. Childhood's End -Okay, this disk is one of my favorites. There is a real sense of where Pink Floyd was at in the early 70's, as well as where they would be headed in the future. This is DEFINITELY where we begin to see who Floyd really was. They had kind of dropped the whole "psychadelica" thing of the sixties- >DISK THREE:1973-1977< 1. Speak To Me/Breathe 2. Time 3. Us And Them 4. Shine On You Crazy Diamond pt.1 5. Welcome To The Machine 6. Dogs 7. Sheep -On this disk, there are fewer songs, but they are much longer. This collection here would be the definative Floyd. It also shows us the darker side of Floyd in many of these songs, definitely a prelude of whats to come- >DISK FOUR:1979-1983< 1. The Thin Ice 2. Empty Spaces 3. Money Lust 4. One Of My Turns 5. Don't Leave Me Now 6. Goodbye Cruel World 7. Is There Anybody Out There? 8. Nobody Home 9. Comfortably Numb 10. In The Flesh 11. Waiting For The Worms 12. Your Possible Pasts 13. One Of The Few 14. The Fletcher Memorial Home 15. The Final Cut 16. Not Now John 17. Two Suns In The Sunset -Ahhh, the Waters' years. This period shows us how agressive Pink Floyd can be, as wel as how vulnerable we can ALL be. Although most of the material was written by Roger, there is still a feeling of Pink Floyd as a well-oiled machine. There are quite a few songs on this album, but few are over five minutes. You can see Floyd straying away from their trademark epics, and the spacy rock we all loved isn't as prevalent here- Total Time: Around 4 Hours

| Re: The ULTIMATE Pink Floyd Collection I'll be damned if the stuff they did after waters left wasn't included. I'm not going to try to figure out the times, so i'm going to try to keep the collections to 14 songs each. Disc 1 - 1967-1970 (Admittedly, I haven't heard half the songs on this Disc.): 1. Let There Be More Light 2. Astronomy Domine 3. See Emily Play 4. Fat Old Sun 5. Careful With That Axe, Eugene 6. Arnold Layne 7. Remember a Day 8. Bike 9. Interstellar Overdrive 10. The Nile Song 11. If 12. Paint Box 13. Jugband Blues 14. A Saucerful of Secrets (Pompeii Version) Disc 2 - 1970 - 1975 1. Shine On You Crazy Diamond Parts 1-5 2. One Of These Days 3. Time 4. The Great Gig in the Sky 5. Money 6. Us and Them/Any Colour you Like 7. Fearless (cut off near the end) 8. Wish You Were Here 9. Shine On You Crazy Diamond Parts 6-9 (10 Second Pause) 10. Echoes Disc 3 - 1977-1983 (I have only heard two songs off the final cut so...) 1. Dogs 2. The Happiest Days of our Lives 3. Another Brick in the Wall Part 2 4. Pigs (Three Different Ones) 5. The Final Cut 6. Not Now John 7. Hey You 8. Is There Anybody Out There? 9. Nobody Home w/Bring the Boys Back Home Outro 10. Comfortably Numb 11. Sheep 12. Run Like Hell 13. Your Possible Pasts 14. Mother Disc 4 - 1987 - 1994 1. Sorrow (fades into the rowboat noise at the beginning of signs of life, which in turn fades into...) 2. Marooned 3. Coming Back to Life 4. Learning to Fly 5. Yet Another Movie/Round and Around 6. Keep Talking 7. On The Turning Away 8. Wearing the Inside Out 9. What Do You Want From Me? 10. One Slip 11. Lost For Words 12. High Hopes Hmmm... This was done just off the top of my head, so there may be inconsistencies. I could probably work on Disc 3 a bit.

| Re: The ULTIMATE Pink Floyd Collection personally, i would find it impossible to make a Best of cd for pink floyd. I would pick every cd and call that good enough, because i like how on many of the songs run together and stuff

Ah ha! I knew someone would ask that question. The only reason I didn't put anything from 'Division Bell' or 'A Momentary Lapse' is because I haven't heard anything from the post-Waters era. (except for PULSE), so I left it off the cut.

| Re: The ULTIMATE Pink Floyd Collection Quote:
Normally, I would agree with this. Pink Floyd does do a very good job of running their songs together, whether it be sound effects or some other noise. But in this situation, I wanted to see if there could be a "best of" album for people unfamiliar or just getting to know Pink Floyd. I know the "best of" collections are usually terrible, but I think we can change that.

| Re: The ULTIMATE Pink Floyd Collection looks cool, but I doubt they'd hunt around for all those different sources if EMI or whoever wanted to release Raving and Drooling. They'd probably stick to the master tapes, because they're LAZY! |

| Re: The ULTIMATE Pink Floyd Collection Well... the MFSL and SACD versions basically ARE the masters. And they did use a "pre-master" mix of Shine On You Crazy Diamond for the original Echoes. On another topic, have you noticed that every time "When The Tigers Broke Free" has seen release, it was mixed differently? Try listening to the old VHS of the Wall movie, the DVD, the 7" single version, the Echoes version, and the new Final Cut version. Count the number of snare drum rolls in each one. Yikes. And which is the best? I like the newest one (Final Cut) myself.

| Re: The ULTIMATE Pink Floyd Collection Sorry about ratting out your thread Us and Mudmen... all that aside, yours is a really good set. I like the running order a lot. But were the names in brackets supposed to signify the lead singer, or the composer? Because either way they're a little bit off...
