Piper At The Gates of Dawn (Mono)

Can this be found for cheap-ish online? What are the differences between it and the regular one?

If you want the original LP, you're not going to find it for cheap-ish. Be prepared to shell out a few hundred bucks for that.

Nothing apart from sound, as far as I'm aware. There might be a few audio tidbits not present on the stereo LP.

There are many things different. The mixes usually tend to feel more "powerful," as everything is pushed together into one channel. Background sound effects tend to be more noticeable, the vocals are right in front, and the rhythm tracks sound way different (as a result of rhythm guitar pushed down in favour of lead guitar, etc). The vocals have some crazy special effects added to them (phasing and the like). Of course, there's no stupid panning effects done in a hurry by Norman Smith's assistant, instead members of the Floyd themselves are said to have participated in making these mixes.

Some tracks (Scarecrow comes to mind) are barely different from what you'd get by mixing the two channels of the stereo version into mono yourself. Other tracks (Matilda Mother, Flaming) have been edited differently from the stereo mixes. This version of the album is the only mono mix of a Floyd album officially available on CD, since it is the only Floyd album that differs so markedly between stereo and mono.
