Quality concert footage?

I was wondering if any quality footage was ever recorded from Waters-era Floyd tours? If so, any chance of DVD releases? I just bought Pompeii the other day, and I love it. I would absolutely LOVE to see a DSOTM or Wall show in full DVD glory...

Footage of Wall shows exists but it's extremely dark and blurry in most places and will likely never see release. Apparently there is pro-shot footage of a 1972 show in Brighton, but only a few snippets have emerged. A Pompeii-like TV special called "An Hour with Pink Floyd" was filmed at KQED in 1970 and has reportedly been released on laserdisc of all things.

And there are a couple of very-bad quality audience-filmed clips from 1975 and 1977. And that's about it, really.

Ditto to that.

I'm really surprised that the Floyd never professionaly recorded any of the shows from, specifically, The Wall tour. That tour in particular was such a monumental undertaking and event, I would think it would be on tape somewhere. With bands like Zeppelin and Rush recording shows for releaser at about that time, I wonder why the Floyd never did.

They actually mounted the 1981 Earl's Court shows for the specific purpose of filming it, but accidentally used the wrong film stock and it proceeded to come out all dark and blurry. There are a couple of nice bits though.

I bring this up because I found this note in a review of Pompeii on Amazon:

"Now I know they have have complete Live AUDIO/VIDEO Recordings of Dark Side of the Moon 1972-1974 tours, Wish You Were Here 1975 tours and Animals 1977 In the Flesh tours. If Jimmy Page can work his magic with his masters for both the DVD and How the West Was Won and that footage is older than yours(PF's). What is stopping you, third party Pink Floyd footage is nice. But we would rather se see something directly from Roger/Dave/Nick/Rick/Strom/EMI and best of, making of classic album DVD isn't cutting it any more, you have released, DSotM like 80 times allready, how about a live animals tour or a live DSotM 1972 Hollywood Bowl Tour. A nice DVD 5 1/2 hour Package is what we want. Not a 1/2 hour BBC VH1 presentastion is what we want."

He makes it sound like there is very presentable material somewhere out there...

He's basing that on conjecture, really. I would be very surprised if anything at all was ever released from the post-WYWH, pre-Wall shows. To my knowledge, no more than one show at a time was ever filmed in that period. It's as simple as that. Led Zeppelin managed to either film two or more nights in a row or got incredibly lucky and gave one of their best performances as the cameras were rolling (RAH 1970). Pink Floyd don't have those kind of gems lying around.

All members of the Floyd are notorious perfectionists when it comes to their official releases, but their live shows were often imperfect. That doesn't make them any less special, but it means we have to rely on illegitimate recordings to hear them. We were supposed to get an offical release of the Floyd's BBC sessions but it was vetoed due to what Roger thought were lackluster performances. It's a wonder, really, that Is There Anybody Out There? saw the light of day and that's largely thanks to James Guthrie's superhuman remixing skill.

Whatever that reviewer was referring to when he said "third party Pink Floyd footage is nice", I haven't seen and I've seen a lot, if not all of it.

I wish the Floyd crew could stop all of their childish bickering and give us fans what we need, a healthy dose of the Floyd Machine.

If they could somehow gather up all of this raw material (unreleased, bootlegs, etc.) and try to edit it and make it sound better, there could be some official releases of some rare songs. Surely, the very people who recorded this material could find it somewhere.

But I doubt this will happen, unless somehow the fans could convince the Floyd crew to do something like this.

I would buy any official Floyd release.
