Oh man, I hate to say this - John Lennon was a great songwriter and singer, and did a lot for peace around the world, and was a decent guy, and indeed, did nothing to get killed - but am I the only one who thinks that Mark David Chapman deserves another chance?

I mean, look at it. He's forty-nine (according to the petition), and he isn't exactly a cut and buff person. (i.e., he's kinda fat). I don't think he would harm a fly these days.

Don't get me wrong, he did a bad thing. But other people get released for the same crime in ten years' time. I know the case is different here, obviously, but come on...

Then again, I feel like he belongs in prison for his own protection. If he was released, some Lennon fan would kill him in his first month of release.

Anyway... I think MDC deserves the chance to live a regular life.

Let the flaming commence, I'm being serious in what I say.

Yeah, as I just told you a minute ago...lol

If Chapman had murdered anyone other than Lennon, most people would think that he had done his time and was rehabilitated.
Look how many murderers get paroled after serving less than ten years. Be realistic.

However, he probably is safer in prison. Plenty of rabid Lennon fans would only be too happy to kill Chapman. Sad, really.

Whatever happened to giving peace a chance, anyway?

I think it's a travesty that anyone who slaughters someone for no good reason is allowed out of prison. It's like the first one's a freebie or something. It's especially a problem out here in Philadelphia, there are like no laws anymore. A few years back these three sixteen year olds raped an eleven year old girl over at Vet's Stadium. They were given probation.

Again, it's a travesty. I think, if you kill anyone, you should stay in jail.

But you're entitled to your opinion, and at least you stated it in an adult manner, so I'll give you a bunny. *hands you a bunny*

Just one suggestion: don't say his name entirely. Don't make his dream of becoming famous come true!!!!

Do not let MDC out

The likes of people like MDC should not be let out of jail.

Sure, if he had murdered any other person he would probably be out at the end of 10 years. But, is 10 years for a cold blooded murder enough? Surely not. I've heard of people who serve more severe sentences for a lot less.

Make no mistakes, John Lennon was not any common individual. He was a peacefull soul who stood for a lot of noble things. Who is going to compensate us, the world, for example for the great music we lost, music he could have written if he would have lived longer?

Now if MDC is nuts, that's one more reason to keep him locked because, sooner or later, he will kill someone else.

For me he's just a piece of garbage, deserving no respect and mercy.

I wonder many 'peaceful, noble souls' are murdered every year for just being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Their murderers get out in less than ten years, it seems, in most cases.

MDC is only in prison now because the man he murdered was famous world-wide. I mean, murder isn't right any case, but why should MDC get discriminated against? If released, he wouldn't harm anybody, if he could indeed live on his own without someone killing him.

He's almost in prison for his own safety.

I agree with Shane G. The guy did it a long time ago, he has probably thought it over about a million times now and feels bad for it. I doubt he's going to go killing any more people. And it's not like keeping him in jail is going to bring Lennon back. I think he should be given another chance.
