Waters Vs. Barrett I think that he was but after he left i think the Dark side, The Wall lyrics are much better than enything Syd ever made...

I've got a clan of gingerbread men Here a man, there a man, lots of gingerbread men Take a couple if you wish, they're on the dish That says it all...how in the world does nonsense like that compare to ANY of the thought-provoking lyrics Roger came up with?

Yeah, Roger became the definitive voice of Floyd in the latter years.

I disagree. Been listening to floyd ever since the beginning and Roger definately didn't pick up writing skills for a few years. Roger's songs on A Saucerful Of Secrets were definately good but after that even upto meddle he wasn't there. Syd had piles of songs that they hadn't used for the debut album and even his solo songs were very good and I don't think anyone can pick up the way he wrote.

Sure Roger was a great lyricist, but his style isn't very unique. A lot of people can mimic Roger's bitter observasions of society, but nobody can come up with the genius ramblings of Syd Barrett. Last edited by CerpinTaxt; 08-19-2004 at 09:54 PM.

Roger can sure write up a spicy lyric, but Barrett was a little more daring musically. Is it just me, or is E minor Roger's favorite chord? half the Animals album is based around it!

Thats just it. If Syd Barrett had still been around, there would be no 'Animals', 'The Wall', or maybe even no 'Dark Side of the Moon'. Instead, we would be listening to albums consiting of fairy-tales and nursery rhymes. Now I like Syd and all, but nothing he wrote was as complex or as deep as the stuff that Waters was spitting out. I wish Syd could have stuck around, but not as the main lyricyst--But who knows, just as Pink Floyd evolved throughout the seventies and became better, maybe Barrett could have done the same.

Maybe I should have said that none of the lyrics that Syd wrote were as complex as Mr. Water's lyrics. I was not taking a shot at Syd's musical ability, just his lyrical ability.

Roger was a good writer and many people can write like he does but no one can pick up where syd left off.
