| Re: The man/The Journey I didn't want to discriminate the hub. I think it's a wonderful idea to preserve these historic recordings in an archive, but from the listener's point of view, it doesn't matter if a few narrow freqency bands of the original recording's noise are lost. The listening experience will be the same. And the fact that the format the hub uses is lossless means that the files are bigger than mp3's and harder for potential listeners to download. My point is that you won't make the original recordings any better with lossless formats and won't make it any worse with mp3s. |

| Re: The man/The Journey Well if you don't mind mp3s then use KaZaA, just keep them off the hub. And if you're caught sharing SHNs that were sourced from mp3 then you'll be immediately banned without opportunity for parole...

| Re: The man/The Journey The Man & The Journey was best captured live on the excellent sbd recording from the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Holland 9-17-69. There are two boot versions of this recording (both sourced from a pre-FM master) that could pass as "the definitive" edition: "Amsterdam '69" (Harvested label) "Complete Concertgebouw" (FRP label) Previous releases of this recording used the inferior-sounding, vinyl-sourced broadcast version, which didn't include the complete concert. If there's a better sounding pre- 1970 Floyd live recording, I haven't heard it. The quality is ex, comparable to the fantastic sbd sources found on "Interstellar Fillmore" & "Smoking Blues". Essential stuff for sure. |

| Re: The man/The Journey Hell yes. Ummagumma was a bad idea, they should have stuck with the Man/Journey format for a live album. Plus the sound quality on "Amsterdam 69" blows Ummagumma out of the water.

| Re: The man/The Journey Quote:
in terms of sound/recording quality, I wouldn't say that it blows Ummagumma away, they're comparable. It is however, in a class by itself amongst pre-'70 boot material. As much as I appreciate & enjoy the live Ummagumma, there are at least a couple of boots that have comparable quality & possibly better performances of that material. There are no other recordings that give us a complete "Man & The Journey" set in the quality of the Amsterdam '69 definitive. |

| Re: The man/The Journey In my opinion, as far as excessive tape hiss, wonky stereo imaging and clumsy editing go, Amsterdam 69 has Ummagumma beat. Edit: Never mind, I'm thinking of "Definitive Man and the Journey" not "Amsterdam 69". Same show, different source, better sound.

| Re: The man/The Journey I have a complete version of the piece simply entitled "The man/The journey". "amsterdam 69" is not a complete performance from what i see. |

| Harvested's definitive Quote:
This is what you should be seeing for "Amsterdam '69" & it is complete--- although, some people might put it all on one disc: Date: 1969-09-17 Venue: "Amsterdam '69" (Harvested) @Concertgebouw, Amsterdam, Holland Sets: 80min Media: CDR Number: 2 Source: sbd Quality: A+ Notes: cd1 (40:00) PART ONE : THE MAN 1-introduction 2-Daybreak 3-Work 4-Teatime 5-Afternoon 6-Doing It 7-Sleep 8-Nightmare 9-Daybreak(reprise) cd2 (39:58) PART TWO: THE JOURNEY 1-The Beginning 2-Beset By The Creatures Of The Deep 3-The Narrow Way 4-The Pink Jungle 5-The Labyrinths Of Auximenes 6-Behold The Temple Of Light 7-The End Of The Beginning & here's the version that sourced it, on the FRP label: Date: 1969-09-17 Venue: "Complete Concertgebouw" (FRP) @Concertgebouw, Amsterdam, Holland Sets: 81min+ Media: CDR Number: 2 Source: sbd > STG Quality: A+ Notes: cd1 (41:07) PART ONE : THE MAN 1-introduction 2-Daybreak 3-Work 4-Teatime 5-Afternoon 6-Doing It 7-Sleep 8-Nightmare 9-Daybreak(reprise) cd2 (40:27) PART TWO: THE JOURNEY 1-The Beginning 2-Beset By The Creatures Of The Deep 3-The Narrow Way 4-The Pink Jungle 5-The Labyrinths Of Auximenes 6-Behold The Temple Of Light 7-The End Of The Beginning I read somewhere that Harvested's edition has a slightly edited/cut walking section during Cymbaline. |

| Re: The man/The Journey I'm not familiar with the two cd's you mentioned but they appear intriguing. Mine is only 1 cd, and I think that "teatime" is edited out of mine. |
