Post recording equipment on ANIMALS

Hi everybody!

Does anybody know where to get a more detailed equipment list of the original Britannia Row equipment (used for the Animals record as ist is the first recorded in the Floyd own studio).

Espicially I would like to know:

- What tape machine and what mixing desk they were using?

- which compressors and EQs they were using?

- microphones used for the different tracks

Has such detailed account of their techique ever been recorded in any interview or are there photo which could help bringing some light into the affair?

Thanx for helping!

btw, Animals is considered to be the "lower quality" album of 70's Floyd in terms of recording quality of course. Otherwise, it's an outstanding piece of art...

I'll disagree with you there. The album is very well-engineered, it's the mix that's been muddied and murked up for some reason. If you listen to the remixed CD version of Pigs on the Wing (from Snowy White's GOLDTOP album), you'll hear a much more airy, present sound. If the rest of the album was remixed the same way, you'd get similar results I imagine.

This is a photo I found in the Animals songbook... I don't recognize the make of this particular mixing board but it would be logical to assume it is the same one they used for recording the album.

EDIT: Never mind, this too is from the live show (Snowy's acoustic guitar, which he most certainly did not play on the album, is dead centre at the bottom of the image, how did I not notice that???)

Here's some of the gear they used for the live show, from the same book:

And part of the live mixing setup from the same 1977 tour, I guess...

All I know is that they recorded it on a 24-track machine.

This site will give you all the equipment information you need. Animals is known for the rawness of the recording. All of the guitars are just raw and harsh, especially on Dogs. I read a review where someone called it "Dave's sheet metal guitar riffs". There is very little delay or echo used on the album, which also contributes to it's dry, pure sound.
