Talking Pompeii laugh

I found it funny, when David was being interviewed he said, "Lots of people think we are a very drug oriented band, and it isnt true, u can trust us." Pink floyd is very drug oriented no matter what people say, i mean watch the wall for crying out loud! look at all the trippy parts...

Re: Pompeii laugh

yes, just the way dave says that line makes me smile. As for the band being drug orientated, we can only be sure about Syd. The rest of them probably did stuff here and there, nothing heavy. How would they have been able to create the music they did if they were high? And yes, i wouldnt want to watch the wall if i was high....for my own safety and sanity. Just lets you know what goes on inside Rogers crazy mind.

Re: Pompeii laugh

Well, there really isn't anything actually suggesting they were very drug oriented. We know Syd was heavily addicted to drugs, but that doesn't mean the whole band was. I mean, for crissakes, they booted him for just that!

It wouldn't suprise me if they did experiment a bit...I read in some article about Wright having gone on a few acid trips in the mid 60s, but then after than staying clean.

Re: Pompeii laugh

Yeah. thats one of the reasons Rog kicked Rick out.. he was dependant on Cocaine, which unfortunately led to him not doing any work.

But I dont think Dave was stoned wen he said that, he looked serious about what was saying.

Re: Pompeii laugh

I find it annoying how people look at The Wall as just a big drug toy when there's no reference to drugs at all in the movie. In fact I can't even think of any post-Barrett song that has any drug references. Not even Brain Damage does, except for the title "Brain Damage" if that is anything.

Are you sure it was Rick who was kicked out during the Wall sessions? I thought it was Nick. I could've sworn it was Rick who once said that he only did drugs twice in the early 60's and he never did it again because he didn't like it and that he didn't see how he could be inspired or even play his piano with that mindset.

I'm pretty sure Syd was a good reason for them NOT to do drugs.

I feel there is more to say that they weren't a drug band rather than being a drug band.

Incorrect. Pink's wife walks in on him doing hash, remember?

There are oblique references here and there, but they're usually in a negative light. "Silver spoon on a chain" indeed.

You're right. But it WAS Rick that was forced out... Nick is the only member who was never NOT in the band!

Re: Pompeii laugh

Those parts just flew over my head while I was writing and trying to remember if there were any references

And yeah, I'm sure you're right about the Nick/Rick thing, because I remember reading about someone being kicked out for drug problems a few years ago and I guess I got my "-icks" confused and I...*Pauses and then screams like Roger* TAKE ME HOOOOME!.

So in certain ways I'm a little right about what I've said Kind of.

Re: Pompeii laugh

Yeah, actually The Wall does have several drug references. Just look at Comfortably Numb. Not that they were promoting drug usage or anything...it was all part of the story.

Re: Pompeii laugh

The lyrics don't make sense? They are messed up? Wtf are you talking about?

Sounds like someone "thinks" they're following after Floyd...

Re: Pompeii laugh

Comfortably Numb isn't about drugs, it's about catatonic schizophrenia, repressed thoughts and people trying to revive him from his catatonic state.
