I think, it is one of the most memorable lines from the wall.

But i've said it to a few mates -and they seem to believe he ripped this off of Ben Franklin (Fight together or hang together) - or Lincoln, or some philospher.

It directly correlates to "the bands" status at the time, and it almost seems as if it had been said before.


Anyone know about this?

It is indeed a beautiful lyric. I remember it from some type of old patriotic song but it is only a "fleeting glimpse" so i'm afraid i am of little use.

Maybe? That line has been used as far back as the 1800's. It's almost a cliche`.

Finally George Washington persuaded [Patrick Henry] to become a candidate for representative in the Virginia state legislature. Henry made his last great speech during this campaign. The speech was a denial of a state's right to decide the constitutionality of federal laws.

Henry told the voters: "United we stand, divided we fall. Let us not split into factions which must destroy that union upon which our existence hangs." Henry won the election, but he died before he could take office. Henry was buried at Red Hill.

My thanks for your delving into American history to find that. I find the revolutionary period to be a very fascinating time in US history. A bunch of pretty damed smart folks did some amazing writing/speaking during that time.
