| Re: Together We Stand, Divided We Fall "Together We Stand,- Divided We Fall" I think, it is one of the most memorable lines from the wall. But i've said it to a few mates -and they seem to believe he ripped this off of Ben Franklin (Fight together or hang together) - or Lincoln, or some philospher. It directly correlates to "the bands" status at the time, and it almost seems as if it had been said before. Anyone know about this? (Let's not get into an argument/discussion of present day Roger vs. Gilmour & gang, nor past Roger vs Wright)

| Re: Together We Stand, Divided We Fall It is indeed a beautiful lyric. I remember it from some type of old patriotic song but it is only a "fleeting glimpse" so i'm afraid i am of little use.

| Re: Together We Stand, Divided We Fall I think it's one of the emotionalst moments on "The Wall" when Waters sings: "Hey you don'T tell me there's no hope at aaaaaaaaaaall Together we stand, devided we fall" Indeed a great piece!!!

| Re: Together We Stand, Divided We Fall well, RW sometimes used to rip verses from other things like books and so on. The song A Saucerful Of Secrets is an example. So maybe this verse isn't his...

| Re: Together We Stand, Divided We Fall Maybe? That line has been used as far back as the 1800's. It's almost a cliche`. |

| Re: Together We Stand, Divided We Fall Finally George Washington persuaded [Patrick Henry] to become a candidate for representative in the Virginia state legislature. Henry made his last great speech during this campaign. The speech was a denial of a state's right to decide the constitutionality of federal laws. Henry told the voters: "United we stand, divided we fall. Let us not split into factions which must destroy that union upon which our existence hangs." Henry won the election, but he died before he could take office. Henry was buried at Red Hill. - According to this site, spoken on March 4, 1799. We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately. - Benjamin Franklin’s comment to delegates preparing to sign the Declaration of Independence "United we stand, divided we fall" is the motto of the great Commonwealth of Kentucky. The Source is believed to be The Liberty Song by John Dickinson (1732-1808). p.s.: good job, Brian ![]()

| Re: Together We Stand, Divided We Fall Excellent, BoaB! My thanks for your delving into American history to find that. I find the revolutionary period to be a very fascinating time in US history. A bunch of pretty damed smart folks did some amazing writing/speaking during that time. Thanks again, Byron ![]()
