Cool Animals on SACD?

brain-damage.co.uk is now reporting that Animals may be the next Floyd-related album to get the Multichannel Super Audio CD treatment (following Roger's In the Flesh and The Wall in Berlin live albums, and the Dark Side of the Moon 30th anniversary disc of course).

Apparently it's due out late next year... probably with James Guthrie in the remixer's chair again (conjecture). I, for one, am ecstatic! No album deserves it more.

Maybe we'll get to hear "Pigs on the Wing (8-track version)" in surround sound...

would it really be worth it for a person such as myself to get it when it comes out, since i already have the original, but i dont have surround sound or an SACD player or any of that fancy stuff.

No. The stereo mix on the new disc will likely be the same as (or pretty close to) the regular plain-vanilla remastered CD. It'll probably only be of use to audiophiles like me with a nice setup.

That by itself would make me sprint to my local music store and buy it.

Maybe Rick and Nick will go back into the studio and overdub some Hammond organ and drum parts, like on the 1977 live version...

I would pop out of my skin if that happened.

I can't wait, if that's true! But why not Wish You Were Here, considering that next year is its 30th anniversary?

I think the Floyds realize that Wish You Were Here already has a quadrophonic mix that needs no improvement, and they can't decide whether to just release that in 4.0 DVD-Audio or remix it from the ground up like they did for Dark Side.

Em, the Dark Side SACD is priced at about $19 Canadian around here. The original 1987 (non-remastered) issue is priced at $15, and Roger's Wall in Berlin double-SACD is around $21. Maybe your record store is engaging in gouging...

Or maybe, as Brain Damage suggests, it's something coming straight from EMI in which the band is not involved at all.

Or maybe it's just a rumour.

Brain-damage is now saying that WYWH is in the midst of a 5.1 remix as well, what with next year being its 30th birthday and all.
