songs from Momentary Lapse... prior to 87? I was just reading in "Spare Bricks" (the online fanzine-ish thing) that Signs of Life was written back in around 78 or so........ don't quite know of the validity, but if so, what other songs, if any, from AMLOR were written before the giant evil split?! (not even necessarily in the 70's, but just before Waters was officially out) if anyone knows at all anything about any of this....... **trails off, getting distracted by Simpsons**

I think Signs Of Life was left over from Gilmour's first solo album, Rog had nothing to do with it.

i know roger had nothing to do with it. i was actually wondering more along the lines of "timeline" of the songs.... like if there were any songs that, per se, were written LONG before AMLOR existed. Like every time i hear Sorrow, I start to wonder if Gilmour wrote it with Waters' vocal qualities in mind.... was it written for Roger to sing, but since he kinda "quit" (to put it bluntly) they did the song w/out Roger?? there are certain bits in that album that make me think they were written BEFORE the knowledge of Waters' disassociation. ooookay, now I am confusing myself. This graveyard shift thing is getting to me.

I once read a very interesting piece about the inception of Momentary Lapse - the writing, the rehearsing, the recording. It stated that, because Gilmour couldn't come up with enough songs, he had to scrape the bottom of the barrell for material. It didn't specify how or what this meant, but I suspect it meant that he used material that was left over from his solo albums, and, possibly ex-Floyd material.

I guess some songs have an old feel because Gilmour was trying to replicate old Floyd sounds at the time.

Actually, it sounds rather like "Comfortably Numb" on a miserable bender after the pills have worn off...

Ahh Botley. I quite like this song, it puts High Hopes to shame.

sorrow sounds great on pulse , but middle part , delete the awful , miserable , middle part , ruins the song , everything else is good ...but then again if to do it , it's not much of a song but a scream of rage ( anilmals quote )
