Re: Echoes = Convenience

I also believe that the "Echoes" Collection has NO VALUE besides having "When the tigers Broke free". I think that any "Collection" besides the "Shine on" Box wouldn't match the half of the Original albums. I think that editing SOYCD and Echoes would simply mean Castrating them.
I don't even think this is good way of introducing Pink Floyd to New People.
The Proper way would be taking an Intelligent person, at least 12 years old, and convince him to sit and listen to DSOTM, WYWH, The Wall & Meddle. One at a time of course, Not all at once  .
If he likes most or all of what he hears, then he just have taken his 1st step into becoming
a Pink Floyd Fan.

And this collection is just another way of the
Record Companies to make more money out of a distorted image of Pink Floyd.

We were better off with a new album or unreleased material.
at least the band is getting some exposure.
Maybe a couple of young teens would become Pink Floyd fans after all, but as I said, there is a purer way to introduce this band to new listeners.

Re: Echoes = Convenience

Ah, interesting idea, _archer, but sadly The Proper Way is very rarely the one travelled.
Can you really see a 12-year old, even an intelligent one, sitting still for over 4 hours? That is, without pharmaceuticals.

What IS ritolyn (sp)?

Re: Echoes = Convenience

Yeah, Myself, 14 years ago. Only that I wouldn't just sit quietly, but rather immitate every note and scream on the audio Cassette and/or LP...

Re: Echoes = Convenience

Okay, you are obviously a singularly unique person, but can you see any OTHER 12-year-olds doing that without pharmaceuticals?

Re: Echoes = Convenience

well I said AT LEAST if you didn't Noticed.
This could be counted to a 17 year old boy as well, or even a person 23 years old, which is curious about new music,or any other age above 12. I just took this age beacuse that's when I got to know PF, and I know that before this age it would be too soon for anybody(or maybe am I Wrong? )

Re: Echoes = Convenience

I agree with _Archer. The only convenience is "When the Tigers Broke Free", and the availability of that tune is not really convenient, seeing as how you have to buy two CD's and 25 or so other songs you already have in order to buy it. Bit if you've seen my opinion on compilations, you know I think it's an outrage to resell previously released stuff and throw in one or two "unreleased" or "alternate versions" of songs so everybody has to buy it just to hear that one "special" song.

Re: Echoes = Convenience

You Doubled on That, Huh?,

Anyway, I bought at the Time "Works", to get the Official version of "Embryo", and Found out It's Horrible, while I have wonderful and awesome versions on My Bootlegs. Then I found out that this version was included WITHOUT the permission of the band, and that it was an Outtake that was counted as "Garbage" by the band at the time, Just because it was SO BAD! Anyway, they Took that "Damaged Goods" Take and put it in although roger and Dave Resisted that.
If at all, why didn't they take versions from Bootlegs like "smoking Blues" (mountreux 1970) or "Atom Heart Mother Goes On the Road" (Paris Theatre, London 1970,1971)?
So, could some tell me about the Version of "When the Tigers broke free" on "Echoes"?
Just to Guide you, the only waters era album I'm missing is "Obscured By Clouds", plus I Have Piper, Relics, Momentary Lapse of Reason & Pulse. The final Cut Is NOT one of my Favourite PF albums. My Favourite PF era is 1968-1975 and MY Favourite PF Live eras are 1969-1971 & 1977.
So, is it worth for me to get echoes for "When the Tigers broke free"?
Is it worth for anybody?
