I know some people are complaining that the Echoes cd is just another way for the bandmembers to milk their success, but one has to admit that a Floyd "best of" cd is long overdue. Even if you have all these songs already, the convenience of having them on one collection without having to switch cds is a plus. Furthermore, the edited version of the song, "Echoes" is actually superior to the 23 minute version of it on Meddle which loses its focus. My only quibble is that I wish they had gone deeper into the vault with previously unreleased material. It's nice to finally have an official version of "When the Tigers Broke Free," but I'm sure that there must have been more interesting unreleased/live material that could have been included. Also while the cover art and sleeve design are pretty good, it would have been even more interesting to include comments from the band members about each song. Anyway, this is just nitpicking. I'm glad I picked up Echoes.

As I see it, with todays pc technology, we can all burn our own greatest hits. Even with all the fade in and outs. There are lots of music editors out there to do what they did. As far as the "new" shorter Meddle...you've gotta' be crazy. No way is the "edited" version superior to the original. I would rather have seen them use the full length version of "Echoes", and "Shine On", and omit other tracks that just don't "fit". And personally, I would have included "Dogs" or even "Pigs on the Wing pts.1/2" over "Sheep". But in the end, that's just my opinion. To each their own, right?

Yeah- I agree. I can't beleve that they edited "Echoes". It's surely one of their singular finest moments. And why include "Sheep" when it's already on "...Collection..."?

how can you possibly say the new verion of echoes is better than the original?!! The middle section is perfectly orchestrated to make you think for just long enough that when it comes back in (with one of the most beautiful transitions and builds in music) it is so intensely powerful . . . dammit i love that song . . .
also i would have preferred pigs over sheep

I dont think any die hard fan would be completely happy with 'Echoes'. I think overall the songs were probably good choices. I dont think cropping songs was a good idea. Each song should be heard how it was originally intended even if they get a bit long. thats what makes the atmosphere and mood of it and we all know floyd does those two thingies perty gosh darn well. Anyway, I would have preferred one disk be all 'WYWH' and 'Animals' squished onto one cd (its almost possible). But then that would have surely angered many fans. So i guess 'shine on' (box set) is the only worthy 'best of' to manmy of us. but even then you don't have gems like 'piper', 'atom heart mother', and 'the final cut'.

Interesting you say those three albums, as they are probably the three worst Floyd albums that have Waters and aren't soundtracks. In my opinion, anyways.

Agree with the proceeding people. The Floyd eing the masters of long, ethereal pieces, such masterpieces as Echoes and SOYCD should not be shortened.

And Floydboy75, Dogs outshines Sheep by far.

In terms of releasing rare goodies, why hasn't that song composed with household appliances been released? Do any of you have any recordings of this? In addition, I have a boot that has a strange synthesizer (VCS3) composition on it. Do you all know when this was recorded and for what? Sounds a little like One of These Days, but played on a VCS3.

Yeeshkul!!

I too would have preferred Dogs. I also noticed they omitted both Ummagumma and Atom Heart Mother (!!) I was kind of depressed about that. I heard of the "battle" between Fat Old Sun and If, and I thought maybe they should have included Summer '89 which is a great song. Anyways, I think this whole collection is great, no matter what you all may say, I love all Pink Floyd, be it Syd, Roger, or David, I even love the few songs written by Rick and Nick (ehehe). I just wish they had included Apples & Oranges, which wasn't even released on Relics apparently! (Haven't checked so I don't know for sure).

What Fardoche? You haven't heard of Summer '89?!

I'm almost embarrased to say that I like the Best Of, even though it seems like they're selling out. I don't know why I do, but I guess I just enjoy it. Some of the tunes on it are pretty good too.

I was a lil disappointed when i bought Echoes. I was trying real hard to covience myself that it was a good choice, but...shit, I could have done better editing those songs with ACID!
Just wondering, did any band member of PF have anything to do with this release?

As a die hard fan of Pink Floyd I must say that I find "Echoes" rather interesting. A good complitation disc for the non-diehard Floyd fan. As for the rest of us, stick to buying the original albums. I would have like to have seen the complete (if there is any) studio version of "Shine On You Crazy Diamond", rather than various parts edited together. I also agree with the idea of releasing "RAW" material such as outakes or remixes.
