Sounds like he's going for his Bob Dylan impersonation again, and was he rapping or was it just me? Could have been just me.

I just listened to the songs.

To Kill the Child is average, nothing new, it's short, it's all about the lyrics, the music is ordinary.

Leaving Beirut is more interesting, but excessivley long. Also, the music is pretty lousie, and for most of it Roger is talking and their is no melody or structure. Sounds a bit like their makign it up as they go, which isn't neccesarily bad, but in this case it is.

Neither track is great. Just very simple music with Roger having a chat about the war. Nothing new. It may get better the more you listen, but I wont be listening to either one again anytime soon.

is anyone else here completely sick of Water's overuse of female backing singers? I mean sure Roger isnt technically the greatest singer around, but compensating for it by having 3 girls sing the chorus to all of his songs doesnt somehow counter that. I personally dont mind if someone cant sing amazingly well, as long as they're singing with passion and conviction, and Roger can do that.

In fact, the best solo recording i've ever heard of his was his Flickering Flame demo(which i LOVE), and it was very minimalist but its SO much better (and i mean SOOOOOOO) than the overblown feel of say, To Kill the Child.

anyway thats my rant

Their not bad, but i'm actually listening to the Final Cut right now. And it's obvious these songs are not nearly as good as anything on TFC. But i still have good hopes for the entire album, whenever it's going to be released.
