Re: Spyware

You're right Cheese, but i've got two games that have faster frame rates on 98se than xp either ver. Plus the GODS over at Maximum PC magizine (they really are the best, Gordon Mah Ung, senior tech editor, rules!) still use 98se for various reasons, we should too.

Re: Spyware

Cheese 6 mo. ago I would've agreed 100% on XP Pro but due to many many factors http://www.iamnotageek.com/history/t...on_vs_Pro.html listed in this link and other things, i just ain't there no more.

Re: Spyware

I still have 98se on my pc as well as XP Pro but only because XP doesn't like my elderly scanner. One O/S is rock solid whereas the other gives me blue screen errors, general protection faults and numerous illegal ****ing operation errors despite formatting and re-instalation and also takes an age to boot. All my games also run much better under XP and I have no driver or other s/w related issues (apart from the scanner).
I don't give a toss what the magazines and so-called experts say, 98 is shite whether you're using it at home or in business and you'll never convince me otherwise. I work for an IT service company and more and more of our customers are moving over to XP, hardly anyone uses 98 anymore.

Re: Spyware

I know what you mean about 98 being on it's way out, as it should. I'd never try to convince you that 98 is better, it just not shite, and does has it's usefulness. As a general purpose OS, XP will naturally replace 98se, but for many more reasons than those that appear on the surface. One point to note, 98se replaced 98 immediately, we're just getting around to replacing it with XP(ME was a joke), in a logical examination of the time line of the MS OS's 98se will go down in history as one of the best. btw, blue screens, g.p.f.'s and an asortment of others are mostly self induced (my repair experience) I rarely ever had one on my machine, I build and design them myself with a 1 yr unlimited warranty, mine could leap tall buildings with a single bound. I do have to admit that fat32(98) vs XP's NTFS is no contest, hands down NTFS is FAR superior. Personally, I knew about sp2's firewall improvement very long ago, and I've been waiting for that to come b4 I bought XP. I found all the goodies in Pro to be a business purchase for me(gotta have one in the shop). My personal computer will have h.e. by Nov. and my kids pc will have 98se. For me, 98se will never go away, then again I've beaten it into submission so many times, it fears my presence from miles away. I still use dos 6.22 though, so I don't know if that means anything to the general purpose user, anyway. XP now rules! Until Longhorn's (MS's 3D OS) entry, that is. Dual proc's and 64 bit computing will be the end of XP by '08, but lots of people will still use XP, and I'll still have 98se running on something, then too.

Re: Spyware

I'd say 'ditto' once again, but in truth, there are 'swiss cheese' style holes in it, even with the 2 service packs. Hence the spykilling software need

TO GET RID OF SPYWARE:

STOP USEING INTERNET EXPLORER

Download Mozilla Firefox. It's free. It's easy. It has no popups and extremely little spyware, and it has a cool little google search bar right next to your adress bar.

You can Try Webroot Spysweeper free for 30 days, but you'll have to pay for 1 years updates after that. My trial ends tomorrow
