Thank goodness this thread is about Nick's book... I was afraid somebody wanted to discuss the old Dianna Ross disco number..

Well, after reading the book, I can say that it's a must have for every Floyd fan.
Nick's writing is very entertaining and even if he doesn't go into much details when dealing with certain aspects of the band's career, the book IS highly informative. Pictures, most from Nick's own archives, are really awesome and the whole book is full of humour and irony which is definitely a good thing.
I think that the drummer was the perfect man for writing a book about the band, for a number of reasons, and he accomplished his task. If you want ONE book about Pink Floyd, this is the one to have, and given the fact that we are never going to have an official biography from all the four of them, this is in fact the definitive book about the band.

(Until Nick updates it after the band's next works, of course.)

Absolutely recommended.

He does tend to fudge a few things here and there (most glaringly in the latter part of the book), and a couple of fatal typos slipped through the fact-checking, but overall it's a pretty well-written tome. And the pictures, as everyone has said, are remarkable.

I, too, recommend it.

"They had the reputation as a very drug oriented group early on. How drug oriented were they? Does he go into any detail about that?"

You had to be anticipating this kind of question, and I'm just getting it out of the way.

He goes into the same amount of detail the Floyd always do about this period...

Syd: on drugs
The rest of them: not so much

And all of the best moments in the band's history ocurred while they were cold sober. Whether their audience was tripping is another matter: most of them were, most of the time.

"We were out of it, not on acid, but out of the loop, stuck in the dressing room at UFO. We were busy being a band: rehearsing, travelling to gigs, packing up and driving home." -Inside Out, p.50
