| Re: Terminal Frost A lot of people talk (actually, write) about secret messages in PF songs. So I have a question : At about 4.18, on Terminal Frost, there is something spoken, that lasts for some 20 sec. The Only thing I understood from it was "one thing... ever again... ever again" Can anyone tell me the whole thing? |

| Re: Terminal Frost I cannot understand it for sure, but I've attempted to transcribe it at my website. Some of it is hidden by the music. "One thing...one thing will bring me here. Never, EVER again." I can't get anything prior to that. I've always wondered if this is a reference to the Holocaust...seems to me like the phrase "NEVER AGAIN" is very often associated with remembrance of the Holocaust. This also fits with what I believe "Terminal Frost" to mean--in conjunction with other songs, the theme of the album has always seemed to me to mean the destruction of the world in war. This destroyed world is further described in the song "Sorrow". "Terminal Frost", for me, translates as Nuclear Winter. Another phrase I have heard on occasion to describe the effects of nuclear war would be nuclear holocaust. This is a thing of cataclysmic proportions is being talked about in this song--a reference to the past (the Holocaust), a warning for the future (don't EVER do this again--or this time, with the weaponry we have now, it could be nuclear winter forever). "A Momentary Lapse of Reason"--it only takes one mad instant to push the button...and once started, it can never be turned back.

| Re: Terminal Frost Typhoon, could you please elaborate on what you mean by "an awful lot of ones" in AMLOR?

| Re: Terminal Frost Heh, actually I meant that Dave used lyrics structured like "one [something]" a lot in that album ("one world" in Dogs of War, One Slip, "one sound" and "one kiss" in Yet Another Movie, "one world" and "one soul" in Sorrow, and now this

| Re: Terminal Frost That makes a lot of sense. I never really noticed that until you pointed it out. What do you think, I wonder, of my interpretation of "Terminal Frost"?

| Re: Terminal Frost (Sorry about that blank post, dropped the keyboard and it hit enter. I like your interpretation...it gives Terminal Frost, which was mysterious before I even thought to find a theme in it (dunno if that makes sense, but it has a cold, eerie "feel" to me), significance first of all. Second, it makes me wonder about the album as a whole...I never really thought of Momentary Lapse of Reason as a theme album, but it actually makes sense (like Learning To Fly is trying to let go of the world for if only a moment and just soar above the clouds). What I'm curious is the significance of that "one" pattern, though...it's in the refrain of two songs and more minor parts in two others, so I don't think it was just done on accident (no matter what one could say about Dave's songwriting). It's likely to reinforce something, but I'm not sure what those songs really have in common.

| Re: Terminal Frost I have thought about AMLoR as a theme album much in the way that TDB is. As to the significance of the "ones", I wonder if this refers to a sort of "last man standing" idea. Was there a movie about the last survivor in the world after a nuclear war? And it could also tie into that "one single instant, only one madman to push the button" idea.

| Re: Terminal Frost i think you are reading too much into it, my friends. i don't think MLOR had any concept behind it initially, but i think you can make up your own meaning/concept anyway. for me MLOR is just a collection of songs. all they have in common is probably the atmosphere...which for me is the most important thing. if you know what i mean. but i like the idea of playing with different meanings of the songs - i like your interpretation of Terminal Frost, FW ! i just don't think it was originally intended.

| Re: Terminal Frost Joker, I guess I see AMLoR as being akin to TDB (which is often said to have the theme of interrupted communication). To me, there are definitely strong threads of a theme running through AMLoR, even though it is certainly not an RW-style (or RWr-style, for that matter) concept album.

| Re: Terminal Frost I agree with you that there is more; here I have only explored a particular part of the AMLoR theme. Would you be interested in working on more of it?
