Where to play???

Hey all,

Me and my friends have been working on this band project for quite a while now, and we have come to a problem. We are a tribute band and play 22 Pink Floyd favorites. The thing is, where the hell do we play? I mean, Pink Floyd isnt really restaurant/bar dancing drunken music you know? I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas, or if anyone plays in a Pink Floyd type band, where do you get your gigs?

Thanks

Jason

Just about any business that want to draw a crowd and hold them for a while (resturaunts, bars, resorts, clubs) would love to have live music at least once a week. Most don't because "Bands are too expensive"..

My wife works as the A.D. of Special events a a major ski resort, she's always looking for bands to fill space and time to hold people at the resort as late as possible. The longer they stay around.. the more $$$ they leave behind.

Approach local clubs, bars, and restuaunts. Let them know EXACTLY what you play and how the show will go.. offer to play a gig for free to see what kind of draw you can give them, but only ONE and let them know it.. Once word is out.. you'll pull folks out of the woodwork if your any good.

Chances are, since you play all Floyd (as you said, music not usually heard in resturaunts) you may end up pulling in a new crowd for the resturaunt.. and helping them grow their business.. They will really appreciate it..

If you have any resort type facilities in your area, definately get in touch with them.. Send them a demo tape or disc and let them know that your available. Again.. a free gig here and there will help launch your career.. but let them know up front.. only one freebie!

The music I play with my band is not "Normal Club Stuff" but we have worked hard to establish a reputation as a qulaity act and we're pretty versatile... We usually have more request in a month than we can accept... but it took us a few years to get to this point.. we can pick and choose where and how often we play now.. But in the begining ..we did a lot of free shows.. (we'd usually get a good dinner out of it though).

Thanks Fulgham, that really helped.

There are tons of resorts here, but they really dont have much going on untill summer.

I think Im going to check out some restaurants. I also might check out this annual 2 day food fest they do every February. Chances are they already have bands but its worth a look.
