I'd imagine that was yet another decision roger was outvoted on. Of course that is only speculation.

There seems to be alot of that going around these days. I know Wyclef has also done "Have a Cigar" for the Mission Impossible 2 soundtrack. Never heard it, or the "Wish You Were Here" cover. I did read an interview somewhere (it was about "wish You Were Here", and Wyclef said something about WYWH should be the first song any new guitar player should learn to play. And that it was his first. But that's all I know. actually, that's all I care to know.

i can see the positive side of it too. if the song is being covered after 26 years of its release, it means that the song is remembered and loved. Innit ?!
i didn't hear this cover-version, so i can't say anything about it actually. sure it's horrible

Nope. It fits in to the same brackets as the Get Carter remake.

The Have A Cigar cover was actually done by the Foo Fighters, with guest Brian May (of Queen) on vocals and probably contributing a guitar. It's not very good...to be honest, no one really does a good job covering Floyd, and you sort of have to wish people would stop trying (well, as far as studio releases go).

I normally have a lot of time for Mr. Jean, and I haven't yet heard this latest travesty of PF, but I am fairly certain that it shall receive my usual judgement of such things: v. v. poor.

Floyd only,
Byron

Joker Wild,

This I'd certainly like to hear.

Perhaps you're not telling us whose cover it is because, in truth, it just doesn't exist and you're just pulling our collective legs?

Come on, 'fess up!

I first encountered Wyclef's version more than a week ago, at least. My girlfriend was flipping channels, my mind was elsewhere. Wyclef was playing and she was about to flip again until I stopped her. It was in the midst of an instrumental part and I caught the tune of WYWH, to which I figured he was sampling it, then he began the lyrics. On the whole, given the horrible cover attempts I've heard, Wyclef has the best of the terrible, at least it had some amount of originality that worked.

Now the one, and only, cover I can appreciate is Radiohead's WYWH. Everything seems to fall into play except why the hell Thom had to use a piano to accompany. It doesn't blend well and ends up falling short. Otherwise I think they did a good job.

the melvins did a really interesting version of 'interstellar overdrive' on their 'electroretard' album. placebo covered 'dark globe' from syd barretts solo days to some success. i know ive heard another good one i just cant think of it...

Radiohead didn't cover Wish You Were Here. That was Sparklehorse. Thom Yorke does backing vocals which were done over the telephone.
