College Radio

Hey, guys and gals.

I just recently got a radio show with a friend of mine on my campus radio station. We need some ideas for what we're going to play, and though we do have plenty we can draw from, I'd like your input. Firstly, we're going to play anything that takes our fancy, but primarily our show is a classic rock show, with the occasional dip into the current independent rock scene. I was just wondering if any of you had songs that you absolutely love that aren't generally played on the radio all that often? Or maybe an old favourite that you haven't heard forever and wish would get dusted off for old time's sake? Get back to me if you can. Later all.

Always,
`Maurice`

Classic rock? Well, definitely play some Al Stewart then! Classic to the maximum!

Rarely-heard classic rock... hmmm...

I'd start with Robin Trower's Bridge of Sighs, which is a great album overall (great '70s guitar-rock) but I see songs like the title track, 'Day of the Eagle' and maybe 'Lady Love' being good radio 'snatches'.

Early David Bowie - The Man Who Sold the World is a f*cking rockin' album (for him, at least). 'Width of a Circle' would be a good long-play song, and of course there's the title track, later covered by Nirvana, which is plenty good by itself.
Also Hunky Dory is a good one to draw from, and The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars has great songs on it too.

Of course, PF is a good band to play, and there's plenty of good obscure songs on Obscured by Clouds and Meddle and the like.

And may I request the Hollies' "Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress" be played every so often, 'cause it rocks and I love it.

Good luck and cheers,

-SMG

I've always loved Fleetwood Mac's ...I'm So Afraid".. but play the live version from "The Dance".. Buckingham is amazing..
