Star Wars on DVD

I've bought the box on the day of release and I'm quite enjoying it. The films look and sound just awesome. And I just scratched the surface of the extra material. Great stuff.

You know, I have a Beta videocassette of the ORIGINAL original Star Wars (pre-Special Edition, pre-THX, pre-garbage monster even), and it's absolutely laughable. You can see strings holding up the Millennium Falcon. I wish people would stop being so bitchy about preserving the sanctity of the original films because quite honestly they were never really all that fantastic to start with.

No matter how many CGI effects Lucas adds, the original Death Star still looks like a bunch of battleship models stuck together. The stormtrooper still bashes his head on the door. Warts like this are never extolled as being part of this series' supposed charm, yet if GL is so obsessed with perfecting his vision then why doesn't he just redraw EVERYTHING digitally?

The ewoks weren't that great of a disappointment to me. I mean the whole series is infested with muppets, why not just let the teddy bears have their moment? It's all a plot to sell action figures anyway. Why can't we recognize this and GET OVER IT?

When I was a little duffer...I used to read the Star Wars magazine I got in the mail every month. And one article was about the upcomming series (1,2,3) and after those were made he would begin making 7,8,9. Crazy..I beleived them...but I guess it's not happening
